Windows 10

Remember to run an upgrade advisor first and uninstall the programs that come up as incompatible. I didn't.

I upgraded using the media creation tool, went to grap a cuppa while it downloaded the install files, came to the part with the "These programs are incompatible", uninstalled the things (doable from within the program itself) then had to reboot to completely purge one of the programs. Restarted the the tool, and had to wait for yet another download. Doubled the install time just on that. And heres the glitch: You cant skip that part in the tool.

That little hick-up aside and one regarding the activation phase (their servers seemed to be overworked), I am now the proud owner of a windows 10 laptop.
 
My graphics card didn't get detected, but worked fine after a restart. Otherwise no problems.

Kaspersky doesn't seem to be compatible, so we're going to have to hold off at work until that's sorted. I seem to recall it took them the better part of a year when Win 8 came out, which is truly appalling.
 
Mine went through with no problem, except for the fact that I've forgotten my password. I eventually managed to find the way to login with my fingerprint again (which is why I'd forgotten the password). For some reason, I didn't use one of my usual passwords on this laptop; actually, typing that, I think I've just remembered what it might be. I sent it back for repair a couple of weeks ago, and changed the password then. :)

Same with AVAST for those who missed my post on that.
 
Nothing incompatible for me.:p

This is an almost new setup though, I've had it about 2 months. Next task for it is getting a ssd, then next year upgrading the graphics, I'm thinking Nvidia GTX 970 (I have a 750 Ti now), unless the new models are out by mid 2016.

Edge is Microsoft's new browser. It essentially replaces IE. However, IE is also included within Win 10, though it's very well hidden (on purpose, since MS wants to migrate everyone to Edge).

Also Edge doesn't work with Silverlight yet though (which is a crazy oversight, seeing as Silverlight is an MS product as well). And there's no Google Toolbar for Edge yet - but I am guessing that will be fixed soon. In any case, I mainly use the mighty Waterfox.
 
Even most Microsoft websites use Flash over Silverlight, so that's not a great surprise.

And they can't get rid of IE, or places like my workplace would be well and truly screwed for some time.

Not for me it doesn't. Partly because of the ridonculous way it treats bookmarks, but also because Edge doesn't support plugins (as I have been told by my bank) so I can't use the Money Manager which seems to only work using Internet Explorer.

The only reason I have still been using IE at all is because of (a) the Money Manager and (b) a couple of work-related things that require it. For everything else I use Chrome. I was hoping that now Microsoft had replaced IE with something better I could go back to only having one browser, but I'm afraid that time has not yet come. I still am obliged to use Chrome and IE and the odds of me starting to use Edge are zero until it changes quite a bit. It all seems like a bit of a wasted opportunity on Microsoft's part.

Flash needs to die in a fire, along with java.


Oh, and from what I've heard Edge won't be fully finished for another few weeks, for those who are having issues with it. It may just be the bits you want haven't been activated yet.

Although I was going to wait to upgrade so I would have time to play with it, I accidentally hit the wrong button and wound up upgrading on release day. My only issue so far has been the firewall in Avast not working. A reboot fixed it. So far, so good.
 
I upgraded my tablet last night and have to say, not bad...not bad at all. Took about an hour (give or take) start to finish...worked out of the box just fine from what I could tell.

That said, I only use the tablet to play music, movies, web browse, etc. by no means power use.

I upgraded my Win 8.1 Pro laptop this afternoon.

I'm running Kaspersky. After Win 10 booted there was a message from Kaspersky that I managed to miss. Anyway, I fired it up and clicked the update button because it said it needed updating.

Within a couple of minutes all was well.

I'm running a 3-PC license aimed at households, so maybe it's different for an Enterprise system.
 
Well shoot! TeamViewer isn't working well between a Win10 host and a Win7 client. I'll have to look into it this weekend.

I miss a certain ex-member, who at this point would hearken me to 'RTFM!!!' No one gets tired of that kind of assistance. :)

ETA: Oh, and no joy getting my Dell Win 8.x tablet to upgrade. I guess I better check with Dell.
