Windows 10

My comp suddenly crashed today in the middle of a Family Guy episode.
Error message read "Thread stuck in device driver."
So I opened it up and looked for the thread, or perhaps cat hair, with a magnifying glass and tweezers.

The Driver said it was "Fred," not thread. So I took it to the hospital and had them separated.

Windows did an upgrade and rebooted. No incidents since.

I have no idea why this made me chortle.
I owe you three ginger biscuits.

Upgraded last night and my GTX 750ti wasn't recognized at first - updated driver and rebooted - picked it right back up. So far that's the only issue I've had.

I have a GTX 660; no video problems upgrading. (Some other minor issues detailed above, but they were clearly unrelated to the video driver).
Okay, thanks. I will try soon.

I migrated an Access 2010 runtime application to Windows 10, and I keep getting security warnings. The app runs OK, but I have that annoying security warning popping-up. If it weren't for that, I'd update my last home computer this week.

I've found another thing (apart from Edge importing bookmarks in the wrong order and making it difficult to re-arrange them again) that I don't like about Windows 10.

On Windows 7, if I was playing music on Itunes (or anything else for that matter) and my wife wanted to quickly switch users and check her email, then the music carried on playing. Now it doesn't. As soon as you switch users, the music stops until you switch back - at which point you discover that Itunes carried on playing, you just aren't able to hear it.

From what I can tell, this is a feature rather than a bug, as they think it's somehow "better" behaviour for this to happen. As far as I am concerned, however, it isn't.

I'll phone Bill Gates immediately.

If Cortana would just chide you for your poor taste in music when this happens it would be perfect.

Good upgrade.

I too have a GTX 750Ti and I've had no problems at all since I upgraded 3 weeks ago.

International editions of Kaspersky now Win 10 compatible

For anyone using Kaspersky Internet Security 2015 who has discovered it's not compatible with Win 10 - the latest version is now compatible.

I initially had to downgrade back to 8.1 because Kaspersky was unable to register itself with Win 10, leading to conflicts between Windows Defender and Kaspersky.

The latest download from Kaspersky now bills itself as Win 10 compatible. Last night I downloaded and installed the latest version, then re-upgraded to Win 10.

My desktop has now been running for 10 hours continuously without issue, had several Kaspersky database updates during this time, and the Win control panel shows Kaspersky is the registered software for firewall, AV, etc.

Does exactly squat.

There are the (internal MS) emails that have been released during one lawsuit a few years back. In it, you'll find a bunch of emails of Bill's complaining about some of the shortcomings of Windows (incidentally, also some of my Win pet peeves).

What happened? Exactly nothing. The problems he complained about were still present in versions released long after. Some of them are still present in the current version.

What does this tell you when a figurehead of a company points out problem of one of their flagship products, and they're NOT FIXED?

Possibly good news, at least if the agent for business is also compatible.

I've finally gotten Windows 10 to start installing on my Dell tablet. I only had 1 GB disk free space and WIN10 wanted nine, so I used the micros SD drive for the restore files.

This could take a while.

ETA: Win10 has installed on my Dell tablet It took about two hours. The install program asked me a lot of privacy questions, and I took the most secure option in every case.

I have no more Win 8.x computers.

I really wasn't that happy with the new look and feel ( compared to 7 ) when running a trial version with a clean install. But I pulled the trigger on an upgrade, and must say all is well. My desktop looks pretty much the same as with 7, and all my apps & hardware are working fine so far..

I killed all the information sharing defaults, and will explore them for possible use as time goes on.

The new browser ( Edge ) sucks big time IMO, with very un-intuitive control over the settings, particularly my bookmarks/favorites; so I'm back to Firefox which I had abandoned a while back due to issues with it.. It seems to be OK now, so far..

Anyone else had this problem? - “Critical Error - Start Menu and Cortana aren't working. We'll try to fix it the next time you sign in.“

Happened on my sister's computer and wasn't fixed with any amount of re-boots. Apparently Microsoft knows of the problem but don't think they have fixed it yet. Tried several “fixes” before I found this one that seems to have worked.

I'm sticking with 7 until more of these bugs are fixed.

After installing WIN10 on my tablet, it came up by default in tablet mode - which looks a lot like win8. I hate tablet mode, but this is what win8.x should have done, instead of expecting every computer to have a touch screen.

The first thing I did with my tablet was download firefox.
