Will this guy save us from Hillary?

Lieberman is a true centrist candidate. There are a lot of Republicans who don't care for the party's social conservatism, but are willing to live with it rather than have a Democrat who's weak on the "WoT" (hate that term...) in the White House. Lieberman would appeal to those people. I know, because I'm one of them.

But the Dems won't nominate him in a thousand years, because the "true believers" who vote in the primaries would probably vote for Barbra Streisand in larger numbers than they would vote for Lieberman.

ETA: If Lieberman were to switch parties, he would, indeed be one of their strongest candidates. He and McCain are the only two guys out there that you hear a significant number of people from the opposite party saying they like.

I'll do you one better, BPSCG--I'm a registered democrat, and I'd vote for McCain before I'd vote for Lieberman.

McCain is over, but for his role as a puppet. It time for him to come home, rest, and be proud of a long career well done.

Would republicans be white guilted into voting for Obama?

Obama has said some things I like. I have not looked into his actual voting record, though.

Stop totally copying me :)

Oops!

What?

He's a righty running under a Democrat ticket, there's nothing centrist about him.

Here's how Lieberman got elected the first time. I've told the story on here before.

*dissolve in wavy lines into the past*

1988. Senator Lowell Weicker(R) is up for re-election. Now there's a liberal. Calls hisself a Republican. But that's Connecticut. Anyways, conservatives are fed up with Weicker, so William F. Buckley, hero of the conservative movement, starts a grass roots effort to unseat Weicker by throwing his considerable intellectual weight behind Lieberman. First time I voted for a Democrat. Lieberman wins.

*dissolve in wavy lines back to the present*

So you see, boys and girls, "conservative" is a relative thing. As candidate Lieberman said of self-professed "moderate" Senator Weicker, “You’re closer to Fidel Castro than to Ronald Reagan!”

It's true!

George W. calls hisself a conservative Republican, too. Even though he spends like a whole boatload of drunken sailors in a faith-based whorehouse.

So everything is up for grabs. I am going to vote for whoever promises to step on my balls the least.

Well, let me be the first to go on record as saying that not only will I step on your balls the least - I will not step on your balls at all. That's a promise.

And furthermore, I will make it a crime to deliberately step on your balls, in any and every jurisdiction where it is not already illegal.

Now, your part in all this is to get the Hatch Act repealed, so I can be elected your Super Deluxe President for Life.

And OBTW, a lot of people are going to lose their driver's licenses, too. Ball-stepping or no ball-stepping.

To the left.

Who to the left of whom? :)

Like Luke T said, Bush spends like there's no tomorrow and things like Medicare and education and promises almost amnisty for immigrants.

If in the middle of the night you make Lieberman a Republican no one will notice; I doubt Lieberman will notice.

Lieberman might be having a hell of a fight to hold onto his Senate seat through the primary this year.

I'm not so sure of that. I saw that Mentos-style add by his democratic opponent, the one featuring Markos "Screw them" Zunigas. That there has the makings of a kiss of death, if you ask me.

Lieberman deserves his own thread, but I'll say briefly that Democrats are coming increasingly to dislike him. It's not because he's the most conservative Dem, which he is not, but that he always provides political cover to the GOP and to Bush. He came out very strongly in denunciation fo Bill Clinton's bj's, and has yet to skewer Bush in anything approaching the same vitriol for his myriad of offences.

One more thing... Lieberman promised Reid and Schumer, in exchange for their support in the primary, not to bolt the party and run as an independent if he loses the primary. He now refuses to say that he won't bolt the party.

When did spending become associated with Liberals? Is this the same tired strawman that's been around since FDR's New Deal? Democratic presidents and Republican presidents spend just as much as one another. The former tend to tax and spend, and the latter tend to borrow and spend. Neither group is especially tight fisted.

Sorry I should have been more clear, spending on what is what I meant. Bush spending on social policies like education and medicare in particular.

Not a problem, it happens. Though I would love to see this alleged increasing spending on social services. That's for another thread though.

Heh. I did not know what you were talking about, so I googled "Zunigas ad", and lo and behold:

A Political Mentos Ad
The creepiest political ad ever made, for Ned Lamont, features Markos Moulitsas “Screw Them” Zuniga sneaking around and peeping through a window as Lamont gives a cut-and-run speech, then bursting into the room with a bunch of weirdly jacked-up progressive pals and grinning into the camera like a lunatic.

A little farther down:

Poor thing, oh well another one bites the dust, curse your the fatal kiss of Zunigas

Apparently Candidate Ned has never heard the phrase "kiss of death", has he?

Little Green Footballs.
