Then follow up semi-rational discussion with this?

The muslim religion believes the west to be infidels and we must die...so why do we let these people who want us dead live in our back yard? I got news for them...I have an AK-47 too ...bring it on bitch!

I mean, how does a person who tries to be rational even begin to combat such blatant stupidity and hate?

What I see is just more of our goddamn headline driven society. Read the headline, but I'll be damned if I'm going to be bothered to dig deeper to find the TRUTH.

Internet Tough Guy Syndrome. Something about anonymity on the internet, being separated by a computer screen from your invisible audience, being able to say things about being punched in the face, and makes people lose all sense of what's rational or even a good idea.

Unfortunately, not enough people call others out on totally irrational Muslim hate. Its no different from overt racism, but its a little more culturally acceptable than hating on black people because, well, "**** Muslims, that's why". After Pearl Harbor, there was a tremendous amount of anti-Japanese racism and violence, "slap a jap" was a favorite phrase. I'm pretty sure the pure vitriol people have toward Muslims will be a historical curiosity... eventually.
