Who will replace Powell as SecState?

Pundits say Rice.

Rice would be good but dang-it, I had her filling Cheney's slot.

Dang-it, dang-it, dang-it.

Cheney went and got my hopes all worked up with his recent hospital visit. I thought surely they were going to find something just dreadful and he would have to reluctantly resign (I still think he will by mid March)

Ok, so Condie is the Pundit choice, and a good one, but let's hear some other ideas.

Wolfowitz? If not then he's a shoe-in for NSA.

Rummy? No way.

Rudy? Not a chance in hell. Perhaps as Cheney's replacement.

Lot's of names out there. Pick!

I'm hoping for someone with Steven Segal's temperment and John McCain's politics.

More seriously, Rice would be fine. Or Lieberman.

Good choice. I had forgotten both the man and the stratagy (picking a member of the other side's senate team).

Would he take it? He ran against Bush in 2000 (so to speak). He doesn't appear to be a baggage carrier (at least not as much as is McCain) but...

How might this impact that decision?

Content: Connecticut governor Rowland (R) resigns rather than face impeachment.

Arnold Schwarzenegger.

He was a Mr. Universe once and a cabinet position is much smaller and easier to handle than an entire universe.

Rice and Wolfowitz are unlikely choices for any "further" advances...Iraq is such a mess that the confirmation hearing...even controlled by Reps. would be brutal. There is a lot of stuff comming out about Rice as essentially lost and not understanding the events she was supposedly managing...and wolfowitz is being blamed for the lack of post-invasion planning in Iraq...

Lieberman, that's an interesting choice. Esepecially as I think the acting Gov. in Conn. is a Rep. so the Republicans could pick up a 56th seat as well.

However, a choice that I'm hearing is John Danforth, former Senator, Episcople Priest, Aspiring Statesman and UN Ambasador.

Our opinons vary significantly on all three topics, but opinions are like that.

Did you click the link I provided? I don't think Rowland is in much of a position to appoint dog catcher right now. His replacement isn't coming in until July and, truth be told, he's a bit stained too. Edit to add: If Rowland appointed a Democrat I could see 'the other side' cutting him some slack with his future criminal indictment.

I haven't done any research on Danforth. I shall now. Thanks.

The one guy who has shown any sense of principal, has been the fall guy for many goof ups, and you are quick to blame him.

I don't what, if any, principles powell has, but Bush certainly has principles, and Powell's job was to advance those principles, which he did half-heartedly.
