Who is a real fascist? Why?

Who is a real fascist? Why?

Anyone who carries around a fasces (see: Rome/symbols/ fasces). Because that is where the term fascist comes from.

Just be glad they are not fecests. Then they would be carrying around a handfull of crap.

Instead they carry around a head-full.

Associating Fascism with the political left because it is "big state"? Sure, maybe it's like that if you leave out the dictatorship and the mass murder.

I have always seen it as completing a circle, go far enough to the right and you eventually become indistinguishable to the extreme left

I reject that they are on the same axis at all. There are any manner of political opinions, left, right, neither, both, or unclassifiable. Any of those can form the justification for a dictatorial state if you take away the right to dissent. That does not depend on HOW left or right you are, but what you think should be done to promote it.

Hell, I could envision a dictatorship inspired by political moderation, which ruthlessly crushes points of view that can be labeled "Extremist".

Question:

If fascism is a co-operation between state and business interests, how does that square with the populist element?

Presumably, this would mean improving conditions for workers? That would mean setting decent wages (as I assume labor unions would be outlawed under a fascist regime).
Is the populist element only a propaganda tool?
