White Fragility

I can't speak to racial meetings but this

, denying, focusing on intentions, emotionally withdrawing, arguing, seeking absolution [and] avoiding.

Describes a couple guys in every sexual harassment training I ever attended.

If I had to go on some stupid training course about how I am a racist because I'm white, I'd probably be some combinations of emotionally withdrawn or arguing the toss.

I think you're right. It's kind of like being a "feminist" doesn't really mean you just want women to have equal rights and opportunities.
It's a tired, effective old trick. Pick a term that has an every day meaning that nobody could disagree with, and invent a new meaning that is about tearing down society and rebuilding it anew from the ashes. If anybody doesn't go along, accuse them of disagreeing with the ordinary meaning.

This book is just one aspect of the current postmodern assault on modernity and liberalism. Liberals are used to fighting the right in matters of sexism and race. Now the attack comes from the extreme left. Some liberal academics are brave enough to fight this lunacy. They include: Bret Weinstein of the Evergreen State College situation and the staff at the New Discourses site. Below are some of the New Discourses articles on this book:

Weird response. I have welcomed the opportunity recently to have that pointed out to me

Reading those, particular the last one, does sound like it is coming from a fragile person.

The idea that you got used to a colloquial definition and get uncomfortable when called that using the better structured social science definition is risible.

Accusing people of hatred when they are expressing love – it makes people feel hopeless. That is the entire concept of white fragility. It is a way to invalidate the feelings people have when they are called mean names. The definition of white fragility is: discomfort and defensiveness on the part of a white person when confronted by information about racial inequality and injustice.

Poor baby.

ETA: now i do agree with the first article that the primary issue is falsifiability of the claims in white fragility. But there are a lot of emotional argument and focus on that instead.

It's not a better structured definition. It's the critical theory definition that was made up by politically motivated people.

And it is better structured. None of those things you accuse it of are a matter of it's structure. Heck, it can even be completely wrong and structured well.

White fragility: Cutting and running from facts, reason and reality in order to escape responsibility, avoid admiting guilt or facing consequences, or in extremis, shifting blame or guilt, real or imagined, onto others.

"All Lives Matter" as response following the agonizing death of yet another black man. There's White fragility for you.

Fearful of manning up to the text of the Articles of Secession (take your pick) and instead insistent on some sort of "Lost Cause"? There's White fragility for you.

Karens calling the cops because "alive while black"? There's White fragility for you.

Totally irrational response to factual mortal dangers? There's White fragility for you... and y'all complain of White genocide. Sad.

As for whatever is taught in Anglo "seats of higher learning" by the Right or Left... just gave you the clue to the problem. Mad? There's Anglo fragility for you.

(Google and YouTube are no longer your friends, either. Boo-hoo.)

most of the larger companies now have diversity and tolerance trainings to go along with the data security and harassment trainings and so on. My coworkers and I have to take a very large number of these trainings form several large client companies - something on the order of 10-15 trainings a month.

I generally find them amusing. They're mostly just legal CYA type stuff and can be pretty funny. For example, the sexual harassment ones will assume that people don't know it's wrong to comment on the size of a woman's breasts in a business meeting with clients. Some of the multiple choice options will be things like "it was ok in this instance because Sarah's breasts really are large and Sam intended it as a compliment". Comedy gold, I tell you.

Some of the videos will show you a data security or information security scenario with several people and you'll have to identify either which person(s) acted appropriately and which were in violation of company policy. I learned to shortcut watching the videos in this case by just noting the races and genders of the fictional employees in the scenario. The bad actor will alway be the white or male employee. No major company want to show a fictional scenario where a black employee leaves a thumb drive in the restroom.

So have you stopped being racist?

It's a trick question. If you're white you can't stop being racist.

Oh wait, I think I get how this works now...

Obviously, the book was meant as a joke to troll conservatives, and they totally fell for it.

You think it is completely reasonable to tell white women they are not allowed to cry in front of black people?

I have no claim of having a position on that. I'm asking about your claim. If you argue it is or isn't reasonable, I would like to read why.
