For the past week I've been looking for cicadas emerging from their skin and couldn't find any at ground level. Today I went to my brother's house and found that a tree in his backyard that contained hundreds of cicadas, some still shedding their skin.
They're white when they first come out and then turn black when their skin dries. In this first shot the wings have a way to go yet:

Same insect as seen from below, it has a good view of the mouth parts that bug_girl mentioned in another thread:
This is one of my favorite cicada photos, as in the top photo three small simple eyes are visible between the two composite eyes. Actual size is about 1 1/4" from the head to the wingtips.
You can tell that they are looking at the camera, the black spots on the eyes indicate the direction of its gaze.
The three small eyes can't be seen without a magnifying glass when their skin is not white. If you didn't see my photos of adult cicadas, they can be seen here:
