• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

I've used Firefox for years, but lately there is something about the browser that does not get along with YouTube, and I watch a lot of YouTube.
CPU use will spike to 100% and will cause stutters, freezes, and so forth.

I thought it was just my aging computer (though it always handled video just fine) till I read of similar complaints with the current iteration of Firefox and tried Chrome.
CPU use dropped to 21-30% and everything in YouTube land was sweetness and light.

I still like Firefox's interface better, but Chrome isn't bad. No doubt the Firefox crew will find the problem... Or I'll buy a more modern computer.

Reminds me of this Flash problem:

If so, it appears to have been fixed with the FF 13.0.1 update, although I can't confirm it since I am on Linux anyway.

And you do know that you don't have to watch the videos in your browser window and that you can use VLC or SMPlayer instead? I think CPU use would drop even more.

I used Firefox for many years, then about three years ago started using Chrome.

Chrome seems really solid to me, no complaints!

Chrome on my Macs, Firefox on PC's.

Firefox on Windows 7 uses a much better font rendering engine info here than Chrome. Used to use chrome on windows.

You also left out Maxthon

http://www.maxthon.com

Used it to get around a Google redirect virus that I let cross into my partition :( Has a few good features I like a lot - also fast

I use IE. It comes with my computer and I am lazy as hell. I've never had major problems with it so I don't know why people complain about it.

firefox because it had the best addblock some time ago , and I hate advertisements. So that wa smy key selling point. other browsers may have caught up or surpassed it by now, but I am still happy with my fox.

I used to be a big fan of Opera and would make everybody know this. That was with Windows. But I switched to Linux and Opera looks far out of place on Linux as it doesn't obey the system theme (and there isn't an accurate skin for my theme and I lack the skills to make one). And working in a beautiful computer environment matters to me.

This was around Firefox 3 time, when all the other browsers had overtaken Firefox. Firefox was terrible at this point. Slow. I would use Chromium/Chrome. Though those looked out of place as well, it wasn't to the same degree as Opera. Then with Firefox 4 through to 13 (so the past two weeks), I started using and liking that. It had caught up, and all browsers were good enough to use technogically.

So Firefox is the answer...although I think Opera is great too and I still want to support this underdog. They're all good at this point.

I am interested in browsers, clearly!

Chrome for me. Was introduced to it a while ago as a replacement for IE and never looked back.

Btw - I remember Darat previously posting stats on the browsers used to access the forum. If you're interested in a complete sample of forum users, might be worth asking him.

It's been Opera for me for a long, long time (I even paid for it at one time). But since around version 10 I've found I'm having more and more problems with it, sites not working correctly and the like. I was about to drop it and move to Chrome but going to give this latest version (12) a week or so to see if it has improved.

I should have known that...I use VLC for all my downloaded videos as it handles nearly any format.

Chrome. It has everything I could ask for. I'm sure you guys who follow the browser wars an tell me... I assume Chrome has copied Firefox's layout scheme? They're nearly identical now.

I don't have any search issues with either of them - I have much bigger problems with the fact that I'm in Thailand and Google's really easy to set to USA or Hong Kong, and Chrome will default to that Google setting, but I have to tweak Firefox to get around some of the local content.
