Wheat intolerance?

Went ballroom dancing and ate pizza, then felt pain all over my legs, including the feeling where blood flow to my legs was interrupted. Thought aspirin would help, but the pain didn't go away. So now I'm trying anti-histamines (benadryl).

Thanks for the helpful suggestions, casebro.

The H2 blockers are used off-label for hives. I got better results adding them to the benadryl. Benadryl does make me a little bit sleepier, so I take one at bedtime.

Eschewing fast food places in general might be indicated.

Also, some people, when they lose weight, experience unpleasant effects from various toxins in lipids. Are you losing weight?

No, just the opposite. Though I do go running regularly to avoid it.

Do you get simular feelings in your legs when you run? If you do, check the pulse points in your legs and feet (also hands and arms) before and after the activity. You seem to get the tingling feelings after activity. It may have nothing to do with food, but with the blood flow in your extremities.

IANAD, but I had problems like this 10 years ago (my parents and siblings have these problems too, especially in cold weather).

Benadryl helped, but I think it's because it put me to sleep.

After running I don't notice the pain as much. It seems to happen from prolonged standing.

I'm hesitant to buy into gluten-free diets and allergy scares posted all over the internet as cures to cancer and other ailments, however, I've been eating salads recently,

As Gertie stated clearly - you are making assumptions on very little evidence. Your symptoms are not consistent with coeliac. Celiac is an allergy to a specific 22 amimo peptide found in wheat and many small grains (not corn or oats, tho' these may be contaminated). The wheat peptide is apparently similar to a protein in some undesirable gut bacteria - and many ppl have a reaction to this protein primarily GI upset and eventual damage to the intestines. There are a lot of unevidenced (woo IMO) claims about how wheat i and plant phenolics are "poison", "toxic" and other loaded terms. I think these are best ignored. Yes you may have an allergy, but please compare the symptoms to recognized allergic reactions, then try some controlled experiments.

Yes anti-histamines can help reduce the immune reposnse to various allergens (I've had good results from benadryl IM vs poison ivy, but it's not an acceptable long term solution.

However, I do want to point out that MSG is naturally produced in your body and in most living things, and since it is an amino acid salt, allergic reactions to it are pretty much right out.

Repeat after me: "It's not just the substance, it's the dosage."

Doubting Stephen is one of the celiac zealots who does not believe that there is another "wheat allergy". You've either got Celiac, or you are normal.

Sounds like a circulatory issue to me. You really should see a doctor instead of trying to self-diagnose on the internet.

My physician and psychiatrist couldn't figure it out. I'm not really trying to replace their advice (since they had none). However, I do intend to discuss it with my new doctor (I moved) next chance I get.

Thanks to everyone for your comments and sources.

From the look of it, most allergy symptoms would involve some sort of gastrointestinal symptom like vomiting or rashes or hives, none of which I have.

I think I've ruled out allergies or food intolerance. My current lead is atherosclerosis. I'm only 27, but had an uncle who died from atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease at 47, with an unremarkable medical history - and several slightly older relatives who died from heart related disease, all on my dad's side of the family.

However, leg pain isn't usually the first symptom people experience with atherosclerosis... so I'm confused.

Yeah some sort of circulation or blood pressure issue is sounding more likely to me, which is something you'd really want a doctor to look into.
