What the hell?

Mind you , I was wrong about nearly everybody. I expected Claus to be more like Toby- shield, battleaxe, horned helmet, spam. Your classic Viking. But let's face it- you can't see him leaping out of the longship, axe in hand, raping nuns, slaying monks, pillaging and looting...
Toby on the other hand......

Speaking of, when are we going to get those romantic pictures of Tobias begging me to run off with him to Denmark?
There are pictures of that? :jaw-dropp

And i wasn't so much begging as.. well.. pleading on my knees from the bottom of my heart.

was just reading through this thread again and stumpled over
Second, his mannerisms showed signs of training on the stage. (Broadway is a major source of agents for "The Company" - thats why they call it a "Company of Actors.")
and i have to do the kyle thing and go "REALLY?"

Tobias was the first JREF person I met on the Thursday morning - just about the time I was starting to wonder if the whole thing was a CT-esque hoax , as there seemed to be no mention of TAM anywhere in the Riviera.
I didn't know what straight Danish autists are supposed to look like, but a highly gregarious wookie wasn't quite what I had in mind.

So Claus didn't slay at will? I thought for sure you would know him by the trail of dead Air Marshalls...

:newlol Wasn't in my head either, but I'm delighted to have spent as much time as I did with this one!

Snogging often includes kissing . . .

No, no, no, you're thinking of shagging not snogging. The first is all the way and the second is just kissing. Lived in London for a year. Did a lot of snogging, but very little shagging whilst there.

If I went back I believe I would do the same again (even if I am old I don't mind being a MWILF - that's Married Woman I'd Love to ... though there it would be MWILS).

Unless snogging has changed since I lived there, but the TV shows I've seen since have not changed the meaning of the term when I've watched them.

snogging and kissing isn't the same. Kissing is something you do between friends and family, snogging is something you do with your SO, or random people on the street or at TAM(like i did),

I thought you were taken, else i would have snogged you in an instant.

Honestly, i really would.:(

With all due respect, how you "mean" something isn't really the way one determines whether a phrase or comment is insulting, offensive, or homophobic. You're using the accusation of someone being gay as a joke; that, in itself, is insensitive. And I'd expect more from a group of enlightened critical thinkers such as yourselves.

Would you all be so cavalier about accusing him of being Black? I bet not. I just wish people were as aware of how these things affect many of us who are gay...or that you cared.

Tobias is a Communist and he's autistic. Shall we care if others who share these characteristics or find our commenting on them or teasing about them offensive? I think you'll find jokes and double entendres and innuendos to all sorts of things amongst TAM groupings that could possibly offend someone or other. The fact that most of us are atheists is offensive to a lot of people--for some reason they think that it means we get together and laugh at believers--and sometimes we do!

And I am very cavalier about telling my students they are all African Americans--because all human beings can trace their ancestry back to Africa.

Toby is socially unusual because of his Asperger's Syndrome--he says and does things others wouldn't--many of us tease him about it and enjoy him because of it. TAM seems to be a group of people who welcome such eccentricities and for many odd birds it's a great place to be. Because TAM is associated with people who are non-religious, I think you have a group of people who is the least likely to care, make fun of, or attempt to hurt anyone because of their sexual orientation or anything else that doesn't hurt other people. If you felt unwanted or insulted, maybe it has to do more with your sensitivity then anything offensive anyone actually said or did. Next time, join in. Or tell people to their face or write a note and stick it on the bulletin board.

Or be specific and not so pedantic. If your feelings were hurt or something was offensive--tell us exactly what it was and why. I don't think other homosexual TAM visitors had the same reaction you did. Should we be offended that you are taking offense to Tobias' unusual social aberrations? --what if he had Tourette's and said the "wrong thing"? I think you've misjudged a great group of people who would be glad to make you feel welcome so long as they didn't have to worry about accidently offending you by saying the wrong thing or allowing others whatever quirks they may have.
