I'm just offended that nobody thought I was gay. I mean, come on! Isn't it obvious?

I'm not. But that's beside the point.
(although I did think that Wollery was damn cute with his head on my shoulder at the whiskey party)

Sure you can. Unfortunately, you're not in on the joke, and that it is anything but hateful. Sadly, thats how inside jokes work.

So far as the presenters go, I can only think of the SciAM editor, and the funny part was how the person who wrote him added "gay" as an insult at the end. The insult itself was lame, but the context was funny.

Failing that, well... we can't convince you, but we KNOW its not a negative thing.

Tobias told me 23 times that he was not gay. I'm still not sure what he was driving at.

you can, but I don't really see it. Can't comment on the TAM presenters, since I had to miss it this year, but I personally find the Toby/gay thing inoffensive.
 
I don't find the Tobias/gay thing offensive either. And I grabbed Toby's butt three times that I can recall, just to make sure.

Hm, I don't think it was nice of us to tease Rebecca like that, though. It was kind of sad seeing her hopes getting raised like that.

I did too. As I recall he invited others to do so.

I don't find anything about the Tobias thing offensive either. I don't think most skeptics actually care about who is and isn't gay unless they are hoping for a sexual encounter. I can't say I know whose preferences are what unless they've said so. We definitely have vocally gay posters on this forum and at TAM, and I don't think I've read anything or heard anything about them being offended. Of course I'm not gay (not that there's anything wrong with that...)

That's not homophobia--just a Seinfeld (I think) joke--

I'm sure all the bulletin board joking was offensive to someone or other--but this probably isn't a good group for one who is too thin skinned and easily offended. However, if you lean towards irreverence without malice--this is a very fun group.

I can't think of anything a speaker said that was offensive--though I skipped Hitchens. John Rennie said that the Christian accused him of being gay as a little kicker at the end, but if you read any Christian hate mail against atheists that is par for the course...the often throw in their thrill at envisioning satan sodomizing said atheist as well. He was joking about anyone thinking that would be an "insult". I don't think any skeptic is offended at being called gay--whether it's true or not. That's part of Toby's joke-- Heck, I made fun of woos all weekend--exclaiming that some coincidence was surely a "sign" and wishing I had the shirt I saw Deborah wearing that said, "when the rapture comes, can I have your car?" Hey...come to think of it--Deborah doesn't need any fundie's car--she won the poker tournament!
 
As one of the major contributors to the cork board repartee (yes Toby, I am your secret admirer...) and as a gay male travelling with my husband in tow... there is nothing to be offended about. Its a long-running gag (pardon the pun) and it was good-natured.

Although I do have to admit that for someone who alleges to be non-gay, Toby has a remarkably suppressed gag reflex.
