Welcome, Tandi

OK. When you suggested this thread the topic was orbs. (Others here will heave a weary sigh, but please bear with us).

As far as photographic experts are concerned, orbs are caused by dust or insects. If you have the will, you can create an orb by using dust and the right video equipment. Do you want to tell me what distinguishes a spirit orb from a dust or insect orb?

Oh!! (weary sigh)

I didnt suggest Orbs paj, you did. Look back at the post!!

A photo taken with a dirty lens, in what looks to be a high dust environment.

Well actually paj, if memory serves correctly, (and I know it does) on the DS thread I said I would be happy to debate the paranormal with you but not on that thread because of your attitude!!

Not inparticular Orbs!!

I also did not say I was bringing any evidence with me. If you think I did say that, would you like to find the post which says I will and show it to me!!

Memo:

I am not Paj.

But it might be a useful starting point if you set the agenda for two reasons.

Firstly, nobody knows why you are here yet.

Secondly, if you do want to talk about the paranormal you probably need to make some claim or assertion at the very least. Otherwise we can all go home now on the mutual understanding that there has never been any reliable evidence to suggest that paranormal phenomena of any type exist.

So what is it to be?

Is there sch a thing as paranormal events o is there not? If so, what are they?

Well, as I said, when you asked for this thread the topic had turned to orbs. And that's when you suggested a debate. I assumed you meant about orbs.

What then? The paranormal in general? That's a big topic. Pick an area.

Ok. Let's get it straight why I am here.

I am here by request of Paj!! He was upsetting some people on the thread I usually post in, so I started a new thread in DS (which he refused to use) in order to debate the paranormal with him or anyone else who wanted to.

Why he wouldnt use it I cannot tell you.

I again told him (a week or so later) that I would still debate the above with him (meaning on the thread I started) but he suggested this forum. Not Me!!

Maybe he felt he needed the backup. I dont know.

So there you have it Drooper. Happy now?

As per the above why do I need to make a claim or assertation?

I didnt ask for this for this thread, you wanted it here!

Tandi, can you post links to the threads in DS you're referring to please? We can go from there.

OK, so what side are you on?
Are you claiming that paranormal events/items/people/abilities/actions/etc do exist? If so which one(s) and present some evidence. It would be better to stick to one topic per thread.
OR
Are you claiming that paranormal events/items/people/abilities/actions/etc do not exist but that science doesn’t know everything?

I see. So Tandi didn't actually want to debate it at all. How disappointing.

Time for some history. The thread she (I'm going to call her she from now on, on the understanding that I may be wrong) refers to is at http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=203525

This is a TV forum, where discussion of Most Haunted is a common topic. Opinion is divided on the veracity of the show, with a fair number of voices on both sides of the fence.

However, as the believers were increasingly finding that their opinions didn't seem to make much sense (particularly in the light of revelations from Jon Donnis et al), they understandably decided that the best way to avoid answering any awkward questions was to create a "fans only" thread, where such questions are banned.

(I'd like to stress, this is NOT a believer forum. It's not as if I went into a medium society and started trolling. I entered an existing thread entitled "Derek Acorah - Fake or Genuine" and joined the debate.)

Now, I didn't take kindly to a member pretending that they can decide who can and cannot post on a thread which they created. So I ignored their demand. After all, if they are going to post unsupported claims on a public forum then they can expect questions.

Eventually, the Mods decided to pander to the request, and make the thread "fans only." Luckily, I am still a fan of the show. I think it's all fake, but I love it for the comedy aspect. :D

(Incidentally, they seem to have the word Randi on a filter over there. All mentions of it get asterisk-ed out. This is just a TV forum, remember.)

Tandi clearly desires a forum where everyone agrees with her. I have pointed out that such places exist. She offered to debate the topic with me in an environment where I would not be censored. It seems she doesn't want to do this at all.

Fair enough. I will continue to raise questions in the place where they arise. Sorry to have wasted everyone's time.

Edit: Called Jon Donnis "Jon Dennis". Sorry Don!

Paj you are being bang out of order.

It's not right for you to link to such a hilarious thread when I have such a tight deadline with the job I'm working on.

I'm very cross.

Looks like I'm going to miss the deadline. :)

Well he wasn't upsetting me - just putting his point accross.

Anyway - as you are here I have a question for you.

Do you believe that Derrek Achora and other mediums can communicate with the dead?
If so then why do you believe this?

I am claiming that paranormal events etc. do exist but science doesn't know everything.

I dont know everything. You dont know everything. It would be a boring world if everyone did know everything. Dont you agree?

I dont feel the need to provide unbelievers with the evidence they crave, if they want that then they should go out and find it for themselves.

I am confident enough in myself to say that I believe in it. If someone doesnt want to believe in it then so be it. Just dont let it spoil you day!!

Tandi said:
No. Never claimed to have any.

Ever thought about going out and getting some for yourself?
I can sense the Tuborg can starting to boil in his hand ;)

If you had bothered to read my posts, you would see that I dont believe DA has the abilities he claims he has.

And yes, I think it could be a possibility for for people to communicate with the dead. It has not been proved that they cant, it has not been proved that they can.

I dont close my mind off to the possibilities.

Great, now we are getting somewhere.

OK what paranormal events exist? Can you be more specific?

Shall we start with ghosts?

I can't see any reason not to believe in ghosts per se, but I have never seen any evidence that could support a claim that they exist. If there is no evidence for something surely the best we can say is that it doesn't exist do you not think?

The alternative is to suggest that everyting exists, which I'm sure even you would agree is absurd.

I was asking a question on this forum why should I read the entire DS thread?

With regards to not proving things - can I also point out that it has not been proven that invisible sand people inhabit the Sahara desert. Do you think there is the possibility that they might do so?

Well, Like Tandi, I'm also a newcomer on here, although I'm a member of many other forums. My interest in the paranormal, whilst critical, does not preclude the existence of life after death and consequent spirit activity apparent to the living, at times.

I've checked the link to Digital Spy, and it seems to me Paj, that you have a certain degree of intellectual arrogance - one of your posts says "ghosts don't exist" as a bold statement of fact.....

.......yeah, right, like how do you know ?

As for Tandi wanting a forum where everyone agrees with her - having read some of your contributions on the other forum, I think there's a little pot - kettle - black going on
:) ;)
