Unitarian universalism?

Yes I did, but I only felt I want to comment on this one statement. I have a friend who says her dad got involved in the UU church and it really messed him up.

So despite there being very clear statements of upchurch's regarding how his specific UU church works, and explaining to you that the "UU Church" isn't one entity but each operates independantly and with varying beliefs, you chose to single out one statement, take it out of context and then condemn all of the UU churches further using an offhanded third-person testimonial as evidence.

Right.

Kathy do you even realize how bigoted you are? Is it really that you don't realize it, or are you just a very smart troll?

I read through all of her 'why does everybody hate the gospel' thread on a very, very slow day at work. I understand.

Very slow day at work?

Do you work in a graveyard? Good ed, why do you hate yourself so much as to read that thing willingly? ;)

There's some great ones in the "kurious_kathy's faithlessness" thread too.

I new you would jump all over me for even saying anything on this thread. I won't continue talking about this church because personally everything I know about what they believe is flase doctrines. Satans greatest tactic to spiritually deceive people and to mix part of the truth with lies. BEWARE!

God is not the author of confusion and I would just caution people to remember that in their quest for spirituality.

I "jumped all over you" because you set up a strawman version of UU and then condemned it as a whole without so much as acknowledging your mistake.

And to be specific, God isn't the author of anything. Man wrote everything attributed to God.

A quick search brought up UU's principles; tell me Kathy, which one is false? and why?

1. The inherent worth and dignity of every person
2. Justice, equity and compassion in human relations
3. Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations
4. A free and responsible search for truth and meaning
5. The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large
6. The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all
7. Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

Men filled with the holy spirit wrote the Bible.

2 Timothy 3:15-17...and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Many people believe the Bible, why don't you?

Many people also believed the world is flat.

Appeal to popularity. You should have checked that link to logical fallacies I gave you kathy.

Men filled with whatever are still men.

I wonder why, in extremely secular UU churches like that, they even bother to call it a church in the first place. I suppose they're just trying to associate themselves with other UUs nationwide.
In my town, it is called the Unitarian Society. Some members bristle when it is referred to as a church.

Hey Kathy says it is bad for you and might mess you up, that's as close to an endorsement as we get here.

I've always disliked the church service. What I want is to merely meet some people. So a question then? Would a church like this be a good place to do it?
I lasted as a UU for about 6 months. The similarity of their services to a "regular" church service drove me out. Like you, I wanted friends but not church. But as someone mentioned, you can get involved in many of their activities without having to go to Sunday services at all.

During my UU days, I was traveling a lot. I've been to UU services from South Carolina to Alaska. And the quip about them each being unique is true. But I did notice a distinct trend: As I moved from east to west, the similarity to Christian services became less and less. I remember the South Carolina service the best. It was indistinguishable from a non-denominational service with the songs being about god, the sermon mentioning god, etc.

Give it a try. If nothing else, generally the people are pretty sharp and you can meet some real characters.

"Well isn't that special"

Sorry, KK is far more of a cartoon than Church Lady, but I just couldn't resist ;)

If God is not the author of confusion, perhaps you could learn to use spellcheck and watch your homonyms and punctuation.

Wow. Excellent job of derailing a thread, kathy. It basically took just one post.

So he's an atheist open to the idea of there is a God but He's not someone you can know personally?
I have no idea how you reached that conclusion from anything I said. The line you quoted, if it helps any, was sarcasm.

From what Iv'e heard of the UU churches they all have messed up doctrines and beliefs. Seems more they should call it a New Agers place to meet rather than a church in my opinion.
Classic "poisioning the well" argument, kathy.

It appears that you get your information from the same sources that Solus did in his OP. Perhaps you should ducate yourself on the issue before passing judgement? Or at least be specific so that I know what you are talking about rather than making broad sweeping generalizations.

Ya know, in order to have "messed up doctrine and beliefs", you would first have to have doctrine and beliefs.

You mean in my UU church?

Here is our main site and here is a sampling of sermons and topics.

Nah, I mean, that is interesting thank you, but I was just quoting you to get your attention. I meant the question in a more general sense.:)

I figured the topic has already been derailed at this point so anything is fair game.

Edit to add: But the question is a real one, I just realized when reading this again that it might be interpreted to mean that I don't actually care what your answer is, when in fact I do.

I am in St. Louis infrequently so I was just wondering what some of the locals do, that may be off the beaten path.
