Trump's Second Term

Okay, but given his heritage please excuse my skepticism. I’d put a lot of money on any government mandating an hereditary Shah with supreme powers.

As a bit of a side note that's not directly the Trump Administration, but is relevant to the forces driving it -

University bans philosophy professor from teaching about Plato because it’s too gay
Plato, Socrates, and Aristophanes are too woke for Texas now.

This is pathetic.
And Texas A and M loses all credibility as a institute of higher educatin.

Texas A&M has a history of retaining its reputation, if not its credibility, through a number of such incidents. Within just the past five years, two of its presidents have been forced to resign. The most recent resignation, just last September, was occasioned by the university's firing of senior lecturer Melissa McCoul who, in a course on children's literature, covered the topic of gender identity. A Texas A&M committee that looked into that firing concluded "the university didn’t follow proper procedures and didn’t prove there was good cause" for her termination. The university nonetheless refuses to reinstate McCoul. McCoul “looks forward to pursuing her First Amendment, due process and breach of contract claims in court very soon.”

This is all related to rules laid down by the university's Board of Regents in November declaring "that no academic course within the System may teach race or gender ideology or topics related to sexual orientation or gender identity, unless the course and its materials are approved in advance by a university president."

It isn't entirely true that Texas A&M has forbidden its professors to mention Plato. They can still cover Plato in their courses so long as they're careful to avoid any mention of Plato's views on love and sexuality.

Federal prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, he said on Sunday.

In a video announcing the probe, Powell said the US justice department served the agency with subpoenas and threatened a criminal indictment over testimony he gave to a Senate committee about renovations to Federal Reserve buildings.

He called the probe "unprecedented" and said he believed it was opened due to him drawing Donald Trump's ire over refusing to lower interest rates despite repeated public pressure from the president.

Trump said in an interview with NBC News, external on Sunday that he did not have any knowledge of the Justice Department's investigation into the Fed.

"I don't know anything about it, but he's certainly not very good at the Fed, and he's not very good at building buildings," he said of Powell

Not that hard .
We could hear them and identify at least the class of boat without too much difficulty back in the 80s.
This is what I read about
Australian Collins-class submarines famously "sank" US Navy aircraft carriers in early 2000s wargames like RIMPAC, proving their stealth with quiet diesel-electric tech, surprising observers and highlighting the threat of modern diesel subs, even "killing" nuclear carriers by undetected "firing" from standoff range, a scenario now discussed in strategic games. These exercises led to upgrades and ongoing relevance, even as Australia transitions to nuclear subs via AUKUS.
Key Events & Details
  • RIMPAC 2000: HMAS Waller successfully "sank" the USS Abraham Lincoln during the RIMPAC exercise, detecting it and other US nuclear subs.
  • HMAS Rankin: Sister sub Rankin also achieved "kills" in subsequent exercises, demonstrating the class's capabilities.
  • The "Kill" Method: In these exercises, subs achieved a simulated firing position, generated a torpedo solution, and were declared a "kill," sometimes taking photos through the periscope as proof, as they couldn't fit the whole carrier in frame.

This is what I read about
Exactly what I was talking about
They were awarded the kill

It happened on exercises I was involved with even though we had detected the attacking boats.
One time we actively pinged the attacking sub several times, the exercise equivalent of an attack with Limbo Mortars and the Wasp dropped an acoustic charge over them for good measure, but they were still awarded the kill. Another time a Sea King picked one up at range, I forget which boat it was, with their dipping sonar and dropped an acoustic charge. We sortied the Wasp but they were awarded a kill on HMS Glamorgan, the Destroyer that got them with the Sea King.

Here's a video of HMS Sirius, the first 10 minutes are on exercises. Skip past the AA exercise in the first 4 minutes to the anti sub exercise.
This was 10 years before I was on Frigates.

On a big multi ship exercise involving carriers and such results are predetermined.

trump won't rule out the use of military force to take Greenland.

How did the United States decide we must have Greenland? I never heard this before. Not from Congress, not from the Republicans. It was definitely not a plank in their platform in 2024. When has the United States ever used military force to seize control of a foreign land? Never. It's the opposite of what the United States has always stood for.

Until now.

This is all one man. (Plus, presumably, Stephen Miller, someone whose own family -- as with RFK Jr. -- has publicly warned people about.)

That's where we are. We've invaded Venezuela and apparently are going to occupy it for quite some time. We're threatening to invade Greenland. Not because of Congress. Not because the public has demanded it. Invading Venezuela and Greenland have never been publicly debated, even by the Republican Party. It just came out of the blue, all because of one man. trump.

We have to find a way to stop this madness. This is not the America I've lived in for many years. This is a different place and one I do not like.
Whiny manbaby got told no when he first broached his ridiculous plan. So now every sinew must be bent to make it come true, just to assuage manbaby's colossal ego and insecurities.

While the Nobel Institute might state that the prize cannot be transferred, this doesn’t stop Ms Machado gifting it to Trump. She certainly seems eager to appease him in order to return to Venezuela, and perhaps be gifted a (puppet) presidency herself?
Any holders of high awards, such as the Congressional Medal of Honor, who are inspired by this to solve their families' financial troubles: make absolutely sure Trump's cheque clears before you hand over the shiny item.

Ovens famously "sunk" the carrier USS Enterprise, in the late 70s and when the Yanks argued at the exercise washup that they could not have possibly got close enough, they were made to eat their words when Oven's CO put up photographs taken through the periscope that showed that boat was that close it couldn't get the whole of Enterprise into the frame.
