Trump's Second Term

I'm not sure if I have already posted this before but this clip from West Wing shows interesting debate on parliamentary vs presidential systems. The claim is that the US system presidential system is "one of this country's most dangerous exports responsible for wreaking havoc on over 30 countries".

Don't think we should listen to Judge Doom.

Much easier to not listen than to refute the argument.
i did, or wouldn't have seen Christopher Lloyd. guess you didn't get the reference.

it's beyond banal - as is all of Sorkin West Wing. The bits that aren't just propaganda.
The logical thing for Toby to do, if he had actual integrity, would be to work to transform the US system, if he thinks it's so likely to lead to powergrab and abuse.
US Exceptionalism is what makes it impossible for the US to learn from its own and other's mistakes.

In a world of Hulk Hogans, be a Jesse Ventura

Ventura: We’re a third world country now. I’ve been to them. I spent 17 months in Southeast Asia while the draft dodger was playing golf. In third world countries they have the military doing their police work in the cities.

“Who is that? The draft dodging coward? I don’t call him by name. He’s the draft dodging coward who when it was his time to serve his country he did what all rich white boys did. I wasn’t a rich white boy. We had to go. He’s gonna tell me what courage is?”

There wasn’t oil on that ship .it was in way to Venezuela & turned around)
Where is the imaginary oil being unloaded? it was seized off Iceland.

Hannity: Did Vladimir Putin call you after the tanker was seized?

Trump: I don't want to say that but the fact is that the Russian ships -- there was a submarine and a destroyer, they both left very quickly when we arrived and we took over the ship and the oil is being unloaded right now.

Norway, what a pack of bastards

Trump on Nobel Peace Prize: I've stopped eight wars and I think it's been a major embarrassment to Norway. I don't know what Norway has to do with it but that's where the committee is located. A lot of Norwegian people. And it's been a very big embarrassment to the country of Norway. Whether they have anything to do with it or not. I think they do. They say they don't. But when you put out eight wars, you should get one for each war.

...snip..
The oil in the deep fat fryer in the galley has been seized and is right now being transported to the nearest McDonalds.

Noway, what a pack of bastards

JFC, what a tiny baby.

Couldn't disagree more. Lloyd was playing an actual political scholar. Professor Lawrence Lessig. And the point that he made came out of Lessig's book. Whether the system is presidential or parliamentary, more important than the system is that the law be followed. A Parliamentary system can devolve into petty squabbling and power grabs too. NAZI Germany was the product of a parliamentary system of government. There's another episode of The West Wing where a fictional country newly formed democratically elected government faced a military coup de etat. The coup was put down. And John Spencer playing Chief of Staff Leo McGary pointed out that the failed coup leaders were being arrested. But more important than the result was the process. Government and especially democracy is not easy. Sometimes, the other guy wins.

Gibberish

Trump: "People come in from Iowa and from Indiana and great places and they end up calling their parents -- 'your son has been killed.' It doesn't happen anymore. Washington DC is a very safe city. We put our National Guard there. They're all central casting. We won the case on merit based on merit from the Supreme Court."

IIRC that's the limit at which banks have to notify the authorities if a customer moves more than $10k in a single transaction. Dropping it to $3k. Seems like that's going to generate a lot of noise to sift through just from people getting paid each month. And what "start pushing that you cannot" means I can't quite tell. It sounds a bit like trying to appear to be doing something.
My first question there is - Do they have the bureaucratic capacity to handle a change like that after the Trump Administration sabotaged the government's bureaucratic capacity so much?

Endless videos come out.
Sinister Antifa has not given up. Press has nothing to say any further, all answers are repeats.
Trump gets ready for his GIFT (grift?) Nobel
