Trump's Second Term

So back when we bombed them my immediate thought was, somebody probably told them ahead of time what was going to happen. Because why not? I don't think they could have stopped it. For two countries that don't talk there is a lot of yammering going on. It fascinates me to hear Trump give what may actually be an accurate summary of the conversation. Or maybe the conversation never took place, with him you never known.

I'm cynical, and am not shocked by him saying "go ahead I understand." Is this going to rub some people the wrong way? Shouldn't it be a little shocking to hear a U.S. president encourage attacking a U.S. base?
It sounds like something out of Catch 22. We bomb their bases by arrangement to show our side we're doing our bit and they bomb us by arrangement to keep their side happy, and so on.

Now that Trump has freely admitted the Iranian retaliation was pre-arranged and agreed, how long until people start to question whether the whole thing was a performance? Whether the most complex and brilliant military operation in all of history (!) was something the Iranians were told was coming and to let it happen.

the tit-for-tat move is something that has happened time and again; Iran did the same thing after Trump 1.0 had their General killed, with heads-up and permission.

Settlements are always located near rivers. They are a source of fresh water and food, and when navigable a source of long-distance trade. Floodplains, too, are extremely fertile, which is why (for example) civilisations rose in the Nile river delta, despite its annual flooding.
The Nile flooding was very predictable. It was considerably easier to live with.

Let me first stipulate that the extent of Trump’s cuts to the NWS and NOAA could certainly have dire effects going forward, up to and including loss of life. To the point that it’s almost inevitable.

But the knee jerk reaction to specifically blame the deaths in Texas on these cuts, and on Trump/Musk, reeks of at least a couple of informal logical fallacies. We have no way of knowing if these agencies, even at prior funding levels, could have predicted and/or warned of this catastrophic weather event in a timely fashion and saved lives. Weather is, and always has been, highly unpredictable. And it IS fair to predict that the cuts to efforts to reduce climate change will make it even more so.

MAGA Logic: Gavin Newsom was responsible for the California fires, but Greg Abbot and Donald Trump are not responsible for the Texas floods.

Because the land is flat and cheap and next to the river. The valley where I grew up was a good example. The cheap land next to the river was bought by building developers and housing built, at that time significant floods were predicted as a 1:100 yr event. Now with global warming they are more common. All the old villages are placed halfway up the valley sides out of the flood plain.
Aside from climate change, many people have a fundamental misunderstanding of what such terms as "hundred year flood" mean. A hundred year flood is defined as an event that's pretty much guaranteed to occur at least once every hundred years. Back when I was involved a lot with planning and zoning, the term meant "do not ever build there, because it WILL flood, even if rarely." Many people, faced with this term, figure it means the likelihood of its ever happening is "maybe in a hundred years, so why worry?"

Of course now with global warming the rules have changed anyway, and we get hundred year floods every year or two, but it was never all that good an idea to build in a flood plain.

DOGE/trump/musk partly responsible for the lead-up to the flash-flooding in Texas that has so far claimed over fifty lives? marjorie taylor green has an idea. Change the subject! She's introducing legislation to prevent anyone or any agency from modifying the weather.

“I am introducing a bill that prohibits the injection, release, or dispersion of chemicals or substances into the atmosphere for the express purpose of altering weather, temperature, climate, or sunlight intensity. It will be a felony offense,” she wrote in a Saturday post on X. The Hill article link

Kandiss Taylor is running in Georgia? She'll probably get elected.

Everybody just has to get a job with good healthcare benefits. Simple. What could be more obvious?

So all the jobs with ◊◊◊◊◊◊ healthcare won't get done any more. I wonder how many jobs that is. I also wonder why there are jobs with ◊◊◊◊◊◊ healthcare.
