Well, there are two possible levels of stupid here.
1) Nobody had actually told Leavitt why the librarian had been fired, so she just decided to wing it by invoking the trusty old kneejerk "DEI!" meme, coupled with what she remembered hearing about other libraries, children, and "inappropriate books."
2) Somebody had told her, and those were the actual reasons.
Either way, yeah, pretty ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ stupid, the only difference being between whether the stupidity was at the policymaking or the presentation level. And that's what happens when this branch of government is headed by a guy whose whole approach is to treat both levels as elements of entertainment in an ongoing reality-TV show. I can't watch Trump at his little EO signing ceremonies, surrounded by TV cameras and microphones, and making his inane remarks as if he thinks he's the witty host every such show needs, without thinking that those cameras are microphones are the point. I won't say that such a president is just what a TV-obsessed nation like ours deserves, but I do think it's what that sort of nation was inevitably going to get when so large a part of it can't accept or won't take the trouble to understand anything more complicated than what entertains them .
