A F/A-18 Super Hornet's crew ejected during a failed arrestment at night on USS Harry S Truman.
The aircraft was an 'F' of squadron VFA-11.
The crew suffered minor injuries and were rescued by 'plane guard' helicopter.

Earlier today a Finnish Defence Force (FDF) F/A-18C Hornet crashed while practicing for an airshow near Rovaniemi in Lapland.

I wonder if there are any sort of behind-the-scenes discussions about moving the world cup to another country.

(Of course, the world cup has been held in countries before that have had even worse human-rights abuses, such as Russia, but given how... unstable... the US is, that must be making organizers more than a little nervous.)

I am not trying to defend Hegseth. There is certainly a lot to criticize him for. (Signal-gate being the big one, although he seemed to be completely unqualified right from the start.)

But, I don't think Hegseth has much influence on day-to-day operations abord carriers, and incidents (like lost aircraft) can happen even with a competent crew. (And the 2 plane losses were completely different... one appeared to be a landing issue, another just jockeying planes around on board.)

Absent of other information, I'd be willing to chalk this up to "a couple of typical incidents that just happened to be notable because they happened so close to each other."
