The unquestioning obedience to authority they are inculcating in China's youth is not too different to the preferred effects of a christian "education". I'm friends with a recently retired biology professor who before retiring was involved in ajoint Irish-Chinese Masters programme and he was deeply shocked by the Chinese students' willingness to unquestioningly accept the pronouncements of him as an authroity figure.

I’m deeply questioning my decision to support the Republican Party after witnessing the persistent and dehumanizing attacks directed at me and my community by individuals who, despite hiding behind a veneer of respectability, openly harbor and amplify racist ideologies. I’ve tried to hold onto the belief that these voices represent a vocal minority, not the broader values of the party. But time and again, I am disheartened as accounts with massive followings—many of them wielding significant influence—parrot unhinged conspiracy theories and perpetuate overtly racist tropes without consequence.
This isn’t just about isolated comments or fringe behavior; it’s about a pattern that reveals an uncomfortable truth about the party’s failure to unequivocally reject bigotry. These attacks aren’t simply offensive—they are alienating to communities whose values, work ethic, and aspirations align with many conservative principles, yet find themselves consistently vilified.
The most troubling part is the normalization of this rhetoric by individuals who should be using their platforms to unite, not divide. It forces one to ask: Is this truly the exception, or is it a reflection of an undercurrent that the party is unwilling—or worse, uninterested—to confront? For a movement that claims to champion merit, individual dignity, and opportunity, it’s disheartening to see those ideals betrayed by voices that choose hate over inclusion.

I want to start by saying how deeply, profoundly sorry I am. My recent tweets were harmful, offensive, and inexcusable. I let my frustrations and ignorance cloud my judgment, and my words caused pain to so many people. I take full responsibility for the harm I’ve caused, and I am heartbroken over the impact of my actions.
Over the past few days, I’ve faced a storm of backlash, including being doxxed and harassed online. While this has been an overwhelming and frightening experience, I know that the hurt I caused is what truly matters. To those I’ve hurt, I am so, so sorry. My words do not reflect who I aspire to be, and I failed to act with kindness, empathy, and respect.
I’ve spent these days reflecting deeply on my actions. I see now how my words contributed to division, pain, and distrust. There is no excuse for what I said, and I am committed to understanding the biases that led me to say such things. I am starting the work to unlearn those harmful beliefs and to become someone who uplifts rather than tears down.
I know that an apology alone isn’t enough. When he writes that he'd "spent these days reflecting deeply on my actions," what he had actually been doing was praising Elon Musk and his attitude to the issue of immigration. I don't know what exactly has made him change his mind, but I guess it may have had something to do with the backlash from the MAGA base and people like Laura Loomer and Steve Bannon. It's possible that MAGA fundamentalists are winning the ideological war over the techbro Republicans. I'm not sure.
Others, like the MAGA-Christian fundamentalist Ezra the Scribe (also on X), are regretting voting for Trump after he sided with Musk and Ramaswamy. But for how long?

Catturd, one of the most fundamentalist of MAGA fundamentalists, still pretends that Trump is on fundamentalist MAGA's side and in opposition to the tech bros. This is how he deals with the cognitive dissonance: by trying to ignore it!

Trump is threatening a great depression is the Democrats don't give Trump everything he wants in regard to the debt ceiling and other spending measures. He claims that it can't happen once republicans take power because of ....reasons. The "trifecta" of power isn't enough to get things they want done, done.
Problem is, if Trump gets the debt ceiling removed, it'll give him the leverage to cut taxes for the wealthy to the tune of trillions. It is all a money grab for them.

I doubt it. I think he will remain loyal to the people who pay him, while paying lip service to the people who voted for him.
It's what Biden did when he pretended to fight global warming while letting Big Oil drill, drill, drill.
You know, "We’re America. We can do both."
There's the side that paid him to do what he's going to do. And there's the other side that is more than willing to believe anything Trump tells them.
Republicans and Democrats are very similar in this respect.

Why would that require the removal of the debt ceiling? Are you sure that it does?

I think Trump may be loyal to the guy who pays him as long as he continues the pay him.

Is he apologizing for the content (calling out the GOP for the racist bigots they are) or apologizing for saying it?

The only people who can't see the GOP is racist and bigoted are racists and bigots.
