I admit I'm trying to view all of this positively. Maybe a bit of looking at things through rose colored glasses. While Trump seems to a good job at running for President. He was ineffective in his first term. And given that his cabinet lacks experience in government, I'm betting they are going to be just as ineffective as his first cabinet.

He's just as good at running for president as he is being president. Running for president just means you don't have to achieve anything more than have a concept of a plan. He can do what he does best and tell people what they want to hear.

Well if any of his supporters listened to what he said and chose to look up what it meant they would have realized that he was actually promising higher prices and more foreign interventions. Expecting that from people who were willing to overlook his first term and all his criminal convictions since would be unrealistic. The majority of thee people who could be bothered to vote in November decided this man was the best option for the Presidency. The blind tribal loyalty of the MAGA Republicans is at least comprehensible, those who decided that they couldn't see a difference between Harris and Trump as President and chose to stay home far less so.

No, maybe that many died (the official figure is fewer than 6,000) and the project was led by the US but the vast majority of the fatalities were among local workers.

The French workforce lost some 22,000, which was one of the reasons they abandoned the project.

It's eye-candy, IMO, aka "look! A squirrel!" Trump made a lot of promises during the campaign, such as bringing grocery prices down very quickly, that he knew then and admits now he's not going to be able to keep, and all this crap about Panama, Canada and Greenland keeps the conversation on those sheer stupidities instead.

(BTW, Canadians, how many of you are willing to lessen your tax load by 60% knowing that you're going to end up plowing that much and more right back into our wonderful health-care insurance system, paying premiums for policies that may not be honored and massive deductibles even when they are? Not many, I would bet)

So, when grocery prices don't come down either quickly or meaningfully, and the immigration situation remains essentially the same, and the working class is "helped" by some billionaires taking charge of deciding which programs that help the workers should be cut while, not coincidentally, those same billionaires craft and implement policies that fortify and increase their own fortunes...we'll be talking about what an ignorant moose Trump is for trying to take Panama, which won't happen anyway (ditto Greenland and Canada).

Doesn't matter what the actual numbers were- what matters to MAGA is what Trump says they were. To them, he wouldn't say it if it wasn't absolutely true, while to the rest of us, he wouldn't if it was- he just does not care about anything resembling accuracy, only whether what he says serves him.

Trump is lying as usual. They weren't given a pardon; they had their death sentences commuted to life in prison.
President Biden has commuted the sentences of 37 of the 40 prisoners on federal death row who will stay in prison for life but will not be subject to executions. Biden's move is likely motivated by the incoming Trump administration's expected hard line policy shift on federal executions.
