Met two Iranians (that I know) of in my life, one a US born student daughter of an Iraqi mother and Iranian father, the other an Iranian emigrant who was my boss in Dell. Both called themselves Iranian, largely because they and their families were not fans of the Shah.

I have several very secular Iranian colleagues who all describe themselves as Iranian.

Those thugs appear to be impersonating police officers. That's a serious offence just about everywhere.

Masked, violent kidnap gangs wearing "Police" body armour when they go on the rampage, well, that sounds like the sort of emergency where the National Guard might be needed to protect people.
