Trump's Second Term

It reminds me of a science fiction setting I read, in which a military leader took absolute control of a star nation "for the duration of the crisis". He took control in 2784, and his descendents remained in charge until 3078. The "crisis" never officially ended, but the nation ceased to exist.
I'm sure that when Trump is about to die, they'll put him on a machine and keep him alive, claiming that he is still able to communicate and rule. How long can someone be kept "alive" on a machine?

With enough machines I'd say pretty close to indefinitely, the issue is usually brain death, but obviously in this case...

Or his cult members will simply deny that he's dead. Like those people who refused to accept the death of Elvis? You might even have people waiting endlessly for him to return. "Hey, some people live to be 100, more than 100, and Drumpf was the healthiest person! He always told us, remember, he was so healthy! He was the youngest person! I know he's 111 today, but that's no reason to believe he's dead! Oh, I can't wait for him to return to save us from the communists!"

10.000 years in the case of Warhammer.

I kept thinking about a Two Sentence Horror Story I read years ago.

No longer able to endure the pain, I begged them to turn off the machines keeping me alive.
The Warden reminded me that I still had 300 years left on my sentence.

Just a reminder that there are nationwide protests tomorrow (Monday, February 17 President's Day) at all 50 state capitals and many other locations. They are going by various names, Anti-Fascist, No Kings, and a bunch of other mottos. I'll be at one, I hope many people attend. Big numbers might cause some politicians to get more active in resisting this.

Thank you for going. Please be safe, these sound like incredibly dangerous times to go on protests in.

It's almost as if President Musk and his orange pet are embarked on a program of destabilizing and weakening the governmental structure of the United States, creating domestic unrest in its population, isolating it from the confidence of its military allies and trading partners, and reducing its stature in the world. Now who might want that to happen?
Tesla shareholders shouldn't.

I've not been to a political protest since the 60s (mainly because I worked for many years overseas in countries where they'd just shoot you if you did). I will be marching tomorrow because a study of history tells me exactly where and to what we are headed towards.

I don't think the numbers will be there. The numbers weren't there for the election. The numbers weren't here in downtown Portland after the election. Everyone expected the usual rioting, looting, vandalism, and arson from the usual suspects, but they never manifested.

But really, the numbers weren't there for the election. I doubt these marches will succeed in sending the message that the elections themselves failed to do.

Uh-huh.

Wonder what it cost American taxpayers for pumpkin puss to take the presidential limo for a few laps at the Daytona 500 today?
It's not the cost, it's the brazen ostentation. Americans are about to start going without some of the things that have historically made them a great society. Costlier groceries, fewer benefits. But the orange Führer gets to take a lap just to show everyone he can.

If you want to talk cost, every weekend trip he takes to Mar-A-Lago to go golfing costs $3-4 million. He did that more than 100 times during his first term.
