Alaska was purchased from Russia who sold it voluntarily. That would be analagous if Denmark was saying sure tou can have it for X amount of dollars.

Texas fought against Mexico and gained independence before joining the USA voluntarily. That'd be analagous if Greenlanders rebelled against Denmark then decided later to join the US.

Hawaii... yeah an ugly and not often discussed part of US history.

Hawaii is an early case of US businessmen deciding that it would be nice to have the Hawaiian Kingdom under their thumb, so convinced the US government (actually it took very little convincing) that the Hawaiian monarchy should be destabilized and taken over because they weren't kissing the ring sufficiently.

It sounds like the type of thing Trump would have been delighted to pull off.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney just confirmed that if the US was to invade Greenland, Canada would view it as an attack on Canada, would be obligated to assist in Greenland's defense, and could use military force against the United States.

“The future of Greenland is a decision for Greenland and for the kingdom of Denmark. We are NATO partners with Denmark and so our full partnership stands. Our obligations on Article 5, an Article 2 of NATO stand and we stand fully squared behind those.”

Missing the point. No one is going to get shot or bombed over Greenland. The US knows Europe is in a weak position economically and militarily (wrt Ukraine). Damage the European economy, the public blame the incumbent politicians for their pain and a deal is done.
