Split Thread Trump-Kennedy center sues artist for cancelling because of name change

It's not blocked for me. Is it blocked only for people in the US? So much for free speech.
Likewise (in Canada). The New York Times has an article on the domain: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/01/us/politics/trump-kennedy-center-website-toby-morton.html, publish 12:42 Jan 1st - no mention of blocking therein.

On the other hand, The Guardian - which leans left - has a article detailing accusations of "plundering" (their word, details in article are of low or free rates for Trump-friendly organizations like FIFA). https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jan/01/trump-kennedy-center-canceled-programs

What error do you get?
This site can’t be reached
The connection was reset.
Try:

Checking the connection
ERR_CONNECTION_RESET
Check your Internet connection
Check any cables and reboot any routers, modems, or other network devices you may be using.

I've done all those things and have no issues connecting to seemingly everything else.

Checking the connection
ERR_CONNECTION_RESET
This is purely a network error, nothing to do with the cache. Something somewhere on the network between you and the desired server is sending back a packet with the RST (reset) bit set, effectively closing the connection. The typical way to diagnose it would be something like the traceroute utility to see how far through the internet switching maze your traffic is getting. But as you say, it may not be informative. And yes, it could be happening to you and not to others in the thread according to such things as firewall policies. If someone has blacklisted the domain as it applies to some tool that applies to you (or your ISP, etc.) then this is a plausible error to get in that situation.

As for the domain squatting issue, it's not straightforward. Domains pertaining to an existing trademark are usually subject to compulsory relinquishment. But if you innocently own a domain that some company later decides it wants (i.e., because it newly starts using that identity in commerce), the original owner prevails. This is how the legal practice of domain speculation works. Conversely if the domain is being held in bad faith, it may have to be relinquished. Generally "bad faith" includes trying to impersonate or disrupt another business, but this is limited to commercial activity, not satire. While "trump" could be considered an existing trademark, you can still register domains like "trump-sucks.org" without violating intellectual property law or ICANN regulations. And since these are .com and .org TLDs, they are not subject to regulations on government-oriented domains.

The problem might also be a web server "crash" or overload on their side. (Perhaps too many people trying to access the web server at the same time that the server drops connections.)

The reason I said it might be a cache problem is that the issue you describe can occur and generate an error message, and the browser caches the error page instead of the target page. So when the network connection is restored, the browser will still feed you the cached error, because the page itself hasn't changed since the last time it was accessed. I've seen this many times before.

That apparently wasn't the problem this time, though. I was wrong.

In this case the error message isn’t a page. It’s being detected and reported by the browser itself. It’s being displayed in the content area and may be coded internally as HTML. But If the browser is caching errors it generates, I would want a sidebar with that developer to find out why.

The composer of the musical Wicked has said he will not appear at the Kennedy Center after its board voted to include US President Donald Trump's name in the name of the venue.

Stephen Schwartz said in a statement that appearing at the centre "has now become an ideological statement", adding: "As long as that remains the case, I will not appear there."

But Richard Grenell, the center's president, wrote on X, external that the reports of him pulling out of a gala in May were "totally bogus" and that he had never been signed to attend.

Schwartz had been listed on the KC website as the host of the Washington National Opera gala in May, so it's not difficult to figure out who is lying.

Joe Kennedy III, a former US House of Representatives member and grandnephew of the late president, said the venue was "a living memorial to a fallen president and named for President Kennedy by federal law".

"It can no sooner be renamed than can someone rename the Lincoln Memorial, no matter what anyone says," he added.

I think he must mean the Donald J. Trump and Lincoln Memorial.

Think about all the tourists who'll be flooding in to see the Trump Hover Dam, Mount Trumpmore (after it's been 'updated'), The Grand Trumpyon & take in a show on Trumpway, New Trump City. After they've spent all their money (or lost it in Las Trumpas.. Okay maybe not) they can be deported home or to the nearest South American Murder Prison (New venues opening this season!)
