Split Thread Trump-Kennedy center sues artist for cancelling because of name change

Ticket sales are down across the board. I wouldn't be surprised if Donald Trump simply wants to put the Kennedy Center out of business for what he perceived as personal snubs against him during his first term.
Wouldn't be surprising, but also seems far-fetched. Mostly, I don't believe Trump thinks that associating their name with things would cause a business to lose money.

No, only the ones that were directly complicit in nazi activities or were started as a direct result of Hitler's actions.
So after 80 years after the end of the war and denazification by the occupying powers, the companies still employ and are run by literal nazis?
No reconstruction reorganization or rebuilding of them by the occupying powers? Literal nazis still staffing them?

I don't think Trump gives a rat's ass about the Kennedy Center's profitability, or even who appears there. Retribution is what drives him - he's a spiteful bastard. So he has his name on the building now, above the original "owner's" name. So he "owns" it, in his mind. He wins. Loss of ticket sales?? Could not give a ◊◊◊◊.

I may previously have said I've been told I shouldn't have bought a Japanese car "because of what they did in the war". As my car was built in Hiroshima, I'm calling it even.

Yes, actually this makes more sense.

Donald Trump's business model is just to slap his brand on something. So he's slapping his brand on the Kennedy Center.

Germany has a universal healthcare system, so people live a lot longer there.

Don't worry, he's only above JFK's name as a temporary measure. Until he can get JFK removed.

Adolf Hitler's been dead eighty years, Elon Musk is alive and being paid from the proceeds of Tesla cars. That seems slightly different to me.

this should go without saying but somehow needed to be said.

plus if you don’t want to buy a volkswagen because of hitler, then don’t. i’m not going to act like i don’t understand what you’re saying even if i don’t agree. or maybe i do, it’s pretty easy to get me to not like garbage companies. i hate volkswagen and tesla, now what? or go buy a tesla too, it’s your money and your decision.

i think using what tiny bit of power you have to exert the change you want to see is maybe the only thing you can do in this world that matters. for better or for worse.

i think it’s the title of a news article, of which is a cautionary tale of generally much more minor consequence than is typical of taking the trump admin at their word

Richard Grenell, the Kennedy Center's president, called the cancellations "a form of derangement syndrome".

He said that the artists cancelling shows "were booked by the previous far left leadership".

"Their actions prove that the previous team was more concerned about booking far left political activists rather than artists willing to perform for everyone regardless of their political beliefs," he added.

IANAL but that sounds like a very useful statement for the defence.

Donald reposting attacks on the Kennedy family and the Kennedy Centre.
Won't be long till he ditches the Kennedy name altogether.

Holding people responsible for the things their ancestors did is the root of a lot of irrational prejudice, not to mention more than a few entirely unnecessary wars.

Nobody alive today is responsible for the things done by people long dead, even if they're direct descendants of them. They are only responsible for their own actions.

I will certainly take things like the current employment policies of car manufacturers, and whose pockets the profits it makes are likely to end up in, into account when choosing which car to buy. I don't see the relevance of what they were 80 years ago to that decision.
