• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Tolerance

The default assumption is as follows.

1.One should respect the beliefs of others, however silly, nasty, disgusting or immoral, so long as they are religious beliefs.

2. Any beliefs which are not religious may be dismissed out of hand, even where supported by evidence.

Anyone questioning the above thinking is a heretic and subject to paragraph (2), may - indeed should be treated as badly as we like.

Totally agree with this!

"IF" being the operative word. Fortunately, that's not something I expect to have to deal with. :)

PS Thanks, Tricky. That is precisely what I would have said, though perhaps not quite so eloquently as the way you put it.
This only tells us that one of us has confirmed themselves in what they believe. How so? Because you simply do not know whether it's true or not. I'm not using this as a means to threaten anyone mind you. I just get a little bit tired of those who insist on wearing concrete over shoes. For surely when the time comes (again I mean "if") they will sink.

Do you consider the possibility that you might be reincarnated after you die? If not, why not? Or everyone might be reborn as themselves, and have to live the same life all over again with no knowledge of having already lived it. The number of 'possible' scenarios are limited only by one's imagination, if one believes that human's have a 'soul' that can survive the cessation of all biological processes. There is only one possible scenario if one does not. Since there is, as yet, not one scintilla of evidence to suggest that there is such a thing as a 'soul', I feel compelled to believe that the 'self' is extinguished with body, for they are one and the same. It might be seen as somewhat of a bleak outlook, but I'm not going to believe something for which there are no facts in evidence, simply because it makes me feel better about my own inevitable demise. Concrete overshoes and all. :)
