Thomas Edison "The Ghost Machine"

Thanks, I think the worse is over, just looking for brave folk for "hands on" The spirits are talking like us, so are not too difficult to understand. But they speak in unison, so its difficult to untangle a lot of it, but their info is incredible :jaw-dropp

I think most of us here at the JREF forum are brave enough to face the spirits "hands-on".

Bring 'em on! :D

Is it?

Claim 1: No one knows if ghosts exist.
Claim 2: But IF they do, we can build a machine that will give them a better opportunity to express themselves than current methods.

Where's the contradiction?

If. The biggest word in the woo language.

I once saw a documentary. It had these three scientists who went around catching and trapping ghosts all around Manhattan. It was quite interesting.

Did they try, or are they among the don't-pollute-my-pure-and-ethereal-work-with-filthy-money crowd?

As far as I can tell, they are supremely confident in their abilities, as long as they don't actually try to test them.

Edison didn't have a ghost machine. He had a replicator machine that he stole from David Bowie.

Oooh, oooh, I saw this reality show where a team of plumbers traveled all over the US hunting ghosts in a special van. They didn't bring a dog though.

I’d bet that at least some of this is a newspaper trying to get more readers.
Plus I would say that TE was suggesting that if ghost were real we could detect them with the proper equipment .
Hint: after all this time they have not

If we don't know what they are (i.e. they are unknown) how can we know if we can detect them or not even in principle?

During the 70s, I was part of a Spiritualist group that was trying to build just such a communication device - their mediums were in communication with several scientists and engineers "on the other side" (i.e. dead, very) who were working on the project. They would give us all the details needed to enable us to build a machine.
I was with the group for about six months; in that whole time, although they spent a lot of time talking to us about it, those dead scientists couldn't manage to communicate even the simplest idea for how such a machine might work. As I remember, the head medium put it down to the fact that nobody in the earthly group had any idea about how electronics worked, so obviously they couldn't understand the scientists. :boggled:

We can't. All we can do is try to give them a better opportunity to communicate with us than existing methods, assuming that they exist and are in some way capable of interacting with anything in a measurable way.

I believe I saw a group of teenagers attempt to do the same, but I'm pretty sure they did have a dog.

It was a somewhat disappointing series as the ghosts always turned out to be the old caretaker in disguise.

After some research it looks like law enforcement might have such a device...

This is a great story. Got any more details? Were there no high school electronics geeks on 'this side' available to lend a hand to those dead scientists and engineers?

Was that the one featuring a brief comparison of a certain pastry to the relevant echoplasmic activity?

I believe that pastry is a common occurrence during manifestations from the other side of the veil, especially when using Danish spirit guides.

Shame that they hadn't heard of ghost particles.
