I believe you meant to say "media" above.
 
The report was worded as it is to point out that somebody most peoplle never heard of has attracted enough of a following among certain elements of the GOP that he is breathing down the backs of the most prominent whackadoodles in the party.
 
Ron Paul is one of those curiosities that seem to occur with more frequency these days. He is quite popular on the national scene, but he hardly makes a blip on the local scene. He seems to safely win reelection to the House every year against scant competition, but he's not a big name in Texas politics. His outspoken and free-wheeling views gain him a measure of noteriety among national independants, but his outright rejection of a lot of GOP policy, including his endorsement of a third-party candidate in the 2008 general election pretty much make it a certainty that he will never get the powerful GOP machine behind him. That's all very noble, and indeed I do respect him a bit for that, but it is also the mark of a man who never truly expects to be considered as a serious candidate.

Will Rand go down this same path toward being a footnote to history? It seems likely.
