The Trump Presidency: Part 20

Only for some definition of "trouble".

He's an old man with a secure pension. If he loses his job, it's not the end of the world for him.
.....

He's 79 years old. He could have retired 15 years ago. He's not working because he needs the money, and if that was his concern he could quit and make millions on the speaking circuit. His life's work is to protect Americans from disease, he brings unique skills to the job, and it would hurt us more than him if he is fired.

A timeline of Dear Leader's catastrophic failures:
WASHINGTON — “Any way you cut it, this is going to be bad,” a senior medical adviser at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Dr. Carter Mecher, wrote on the night of Jan. 28, in an email to a group of public health experts scattered around the government and universities. “The projected size of the outbreak already seems hard to believe.”

A week after the first coronavirus case had been identified in the United States, and six long weeks before President Trump finally took aggressive action to confront the danger the nation was facing — a pandemic that is now forecast to take tens of thousands of American lives — Dr. Mecher was urging the upper ranks of the nation’s public health bureaucracy to wake up and prepare for the possibility of far more drastic action.

Agreed.

I'm saying, though, that he isn't likely to keep his mouth shut for fear of being fired, and if he is fired, he's quite likely to open it a lot more.

Whether that keeps him from being fired is up to Trump.

I was just reading this piece and came here to post the link myself.

The number of lives and livelihoods the colossal failures of Trump and his administration will cost America is stomach-churning.

It makes me think about all of the mealy-mouthed “He’s not that bad” and “What’s the worst that can happen?” dismissive arguments we’ve gotten from the “reasonable” conservatives over the last three years.

Like the amoral sociopaths who they defend, those people are scum.
