Well, since Renata is being shy (it's her nature to be quiet and retiring) and since I'm supposedly a Logistics Specialist (it says so right in my title), guess I'll get things started and let everyone else build from it.

Thursday Afternoon, 26 January--Last year it was devoted to preparing the packets for the meeting and assisting in Registration. I presume that Linda and Karl can use the help again, anyone want to organize this?

Thursday Night, 26 January--Last year Brown and I went up to the Fremont Street experience, if you haven't been to downtown LV, this might be something to do. We didn't have much luck finding restaurants downtown, so eating out first might be a good idea (Peppermill?)

As for the other nights (meetings will occupy us until 4-5pm Friday and Saturday and till about noon Sunday), there is a load of things to do. Among which:

Pub Crawl (king merv is POC for that)
Straosphere Tower Big Shot (and maybe MoeFaux will sing for us again?)
Star Trek Experience (the BA is in charge of that excursion)
Magic Show or other shows in Vegas
Eating out (Renata has some very certain ideas about that)
Strip crawl (you can see a lot at the hotels without dropping a dime)
Suggestions????

Monday I will still be in town and plan to visit Hoover Dam and Red Rocks Park. Any others remaining Monday are welcome to join me.

OK, there is food for thought. Lets get to it, people.

Well, I guess I´m going to be dragged off to the Lotus of Siam again, whether I like it or not, so I could just as well volunteer for going there. ;)

Well I've never been to Vegas before so I'm interesting in doing EVERYTHING! I'm also coming alone so I'd love to hook up with other JREFers so I don't have to be by my lonesome all the time. So count me in on whatever.

that whole "Strip Crawl" thing...

you don't mean strip clubs do you???

Because once we are married that is gonna stop. (in the future once Pool Boy dies and all that)

That's the first thing I thought of! *blushing*

I've bought my calendar! In fact, I'm going to buy about 8 more for some kind of calendar giveaway, but I (we) haven't figured out the best way to award them.

No, I mean the Hotels along the LV Strip, of course (sigh, some folks are such rubes... ;) )

The Mirage (with the White Tigers) the Bellagio, Ceasers Palace, the Venetian (with the canals and canal boats inside the hotel, the Wynn (newest so something wild will be there) along with the Fountains at the Mirage, the Volcano at the ???, the pirates show at Treasure Island....all pretty much free of charge except for getting there (bus fare is pretty inexpensive compared to taxies and driving.

Kitty, are you trying to get me shot!!!!!

It sounds great, Hutch. I was kidding, of course about the strip clubs, but let's face it, LV is known for all types of adult entertainment.

I would recommend strongly to anyone planning on spending anytime walking up and down the strip:

WEAR GOOD WALKING SHOES!!! The strip is a gorgeous walk (in most places), but it's a long way sometimes between hotels. One can very easily rack up 5 or 6 miles in no time. Huh, sometimes it seems that far just from the hotel entrance to your room!

Official Forum Party Activities

Assuming that I'll be attending (not sure yet). Here's a pass at this since I used to do this planning in the other TAMs:

Thursday night: Informal late evening get-together/party at The PepperMill (MoeFaux hosts)
Friday night: Skepchicks PJ Party (Skepchicks host this)
Saturday night: The Forum hosts the TAM4 Skeptic Party (Girl 6 hosts, if she shows up to TAM4)

I can help organize all of this and print it up like we did last year so that people know what is happening.

And, yes, I'm voluteneering to create the Forum badges. :)

You sure are! You'll get a 4 this time. A 4, I tell you!

One thing that would be very good is a big board for pinning up "Things to do", "Tips", "Whassup", "ICQs" and "Where to Meet".

It could simply be a designated area of the walls (with some tacks to pin the messages).

I have reported this post for extremely cruel and hateful content. Prepare to be banned.
;)

For those not In-The-Know, the numbers referred to is on a 1-10 scale of "hotness" from the menu at "Lotus of Siam", the favorite TAM hang-out in Vegas.

A "4" is equivalent to "mild pepperish". Chaos is a wimp.

Okay, so here's a proposed schedule.

THURSDAY

- Afternoon TAM setup w/ Linda & the gang
- Fremont Street Experience
- Strip Crawl, Group A
- Informal reception at Peppermill Restaurant

FRIDAY

- Skepchick PJ party
- Skeptics Hold 'Em Tournament
- Strip Crawl, Group B

SATURDAY

- The Forum TAM4 party
- Star Trek Experience
- Strip Crawl, Group C

SUNDAY

- Dinner at Lotus of Siam
- Strip Crawl, Group D
- Help with teardown

MONDAY

- Hoover Dam & Red Rock Canyon

Girl 6 mentioned that you can't do everything, so there's bound to be some cases in which you'll have to choose between two things you really want to do. And of course everybody wants to rearrange the schedule so they might not have to do that - but, sadly there may be something you have to miss.

That said - shuffle away! We need to agree on a schedule so that we can make plans. Not to preclude the idea of spontaneous things happening, but I'm sure most of us want at least a general idea in our own heads of an itenerary when we're on the ground. I'm not sure it's a good idea to turn this into a "sign up" thread - all I want to do is set a schedule.

Hold on a sec! Why is there a Lotus dinner only on Sunday evening? What's wrong with Friday evening before the PJ party?

The Fremont Street Experience is really more than just the overhead music-and-light show. There are quite a few characters roaming the area as well. Hutch and I watched a guy making some pretty interesting paintings, and I understand street magicians and Elvis impersonators also make the rounds.

Hutch and I eventually ended up in a diner in the Golden Gate, if I remember right, and the eatery was not all that special. That said, my entree was actually very good, and I found myself remarking "That piece of halibut was good enough for Jehovah." Which it was.
Monday I will still be in town and plan to visit Hoover Dam and Red Rocks Park. Any others remaining Monday are welcome to join me.
I agree that Hoover Dam is well worth a look. I'm wondering if there might be any interest in a night-time visit to the dam. There won't be any tours, and you can't see the intake towers very well, but the dam itself is brightly lit and has an especially impressive appearance in the dark. The sight can truly generate a feeling of awe.

I strongly recommend the fountains at the Bellagio. Some of the fountain shows are very clever and sometimes the fountain can actually add to the emotion of the music. The volcano at the Mirage isn't too bad, but is more spectacle than show. Both of these attractions are free. I strongly recommend AGAINST going to the pirate show at Treasure Island. It's too crowded and has almost no discernable entertainment value (unless you find corny jokes, ribald double-entendres, awful puns, cheap slapstick and crappy canned music entertaining).

I'm there!

Just don't leave me alone in my room crying because I've been adandoned by my children....and I'm too scared to go out alone!

You won't be alone Kitty! You can hang out with me and Kim (Mrs. TJ) anytime!

You can even come and visit us in Denver!
