"The Skeptic's Guide To The Paranormal" by Lynne Kelly

I prefer to buy at stores myself, and not just because I like dealing with people face to face. Since stores manage their stock based on what people are buying, the way to encourage them to carry good stuff is to buy good stuff. For the same reason I'll special-order rather than buy by mail or online.

And, of course, in the bookstore you can actually look at what your buying beforehand. That may not make much of a difference if a title is already well-recomended, but when you're just browsing around after work the quality of writing is it's own best advertisement.
Partly what Vim Razz said, especially as far as having a look at a book before I buy it, but for me there's also the problem of temptation. Quite apart from a number of books I'm currently looking for, I have quite a big wants list for CDs, most of which, while not appearing in stores in the UK too often, are available via internet stores. If I start buying stuff on the internet I might not know when to stop!

The US edition is available, with a slight wait, in the UK from Amazon
I thought I'd better point out that this is amazon UK for, what seems to me, the very reasonable sum of £7.05

This is, of course, an eminently reasonable justification, however, I prefer the more creative "but by using the net I save money, enabling me to buy more books, which is obviously a good thing"

The trouble is that I'd save so much money I wouldn't be able to afford to eat for the last 3 weeks of each month...

hang on, I'm just weighing that up...

[homer] Mmmmmmm, more books [/homer]

Mojo, if you want to borrow my copy, PM me your address. All you'll have to pay for is the postage back.

Erk, I admit that I sometimes get skeptical books and suggest that they go in the new ager section, just in case a new ager will pick them up out of interest..... :(

Or maybe burn up upon surface contact, like skeptics do when they see JOHN EDWARDS give ABSOLUTE PROOF OF PARANORMAL PHENOMINON!

I bought my copy some time ago - you probably don't want to hear this Lynne, but it is always out on loan! Family, friends, workmates - it is so effective I think because of your style of not belittling those who believe.
