The Rise of Hitler and The Age of Trump: A Comparison

Meh.
In 1930, Germany had been a united country for about 60 years and a republic for about 10. Trump has no real ideology other than self aggrandizement, unless you want to compare the Art of the Deal to Mien Kampf.

Comparisons to Hitler and the NAZIs are still facile and obscure more than they enlighten.

Edit to add, Its clear many on the right don't know the difference between communism and their own ********, this thread shows that many on the left don't know the difference between fascism and their own ********. Which, was the case when Orwell said as much in the 40s.

Once again: this is not a comparison of Trump to Hitler. It's a comparison of how the Nazis took over and replaced a democratic republic from within. That's why the title isn't "Hitler and Trump: A Comparison" but " The Rise of Hitler and The Age of Trump: A Comparison". Many of the tactics Nazis (under Hitler's leadership) used and the steps they took mirror what the Republicans (under Trump/McConnell/McCarthy etc) are doing as already discussed. They are most certainly not superficial and they are only not enlightening to those who are ignorant of history or just don't care to see them.

As I noted, the conditions in Germany during the rise of the NAZIs where nothing like the US.

It was all about the individual accumulation of wealth the fundamental basis of capitalism. How is it not?
Leopold and the Congo, conquest of a nation for the personal aggrandizement of a King that was financed by his country. Columbus in the New World, conquest for and financed by a Monarchy. Again, how is that capitalism and not monarchist and mercantilist?

And as we've noted, the Republicans are using many of the same tactics and using the same rhetoric to undermine our democracy as the Nazis used. No one has said the conditions are the same but, as has also been already said, history rhymes but doesn't repeat. Do I expect them to succeed? No...and mostly for the reason that the conditions are not the same, especially the economic conditions. But that does not cancel out the fact that the GOP under Trump...and even now that he's not POTUS...are undermining our democracy with their actions and rhetoric.

Because we choose to label them as such. Capitalism was all the big theory at the time of Leopold certainly and it was all for Rubber a clear industrial material. Why are you so devoted to the idea of capitalism that you are unwilling to acknowledge the millions it has killed?

It is certainly at least as close to Capitalism as Stalinism is to Communism as described by Marx. Remember in Capitalism the poor starving is a feature not a bug. As such the deaths involved are clearly something to be celebrated. The system is working

I wouldn't say nothing. Not entirely similar, of course, there are important differences, but like with analogies, it's not the dissimilarities that make comparisons interesting.

Well, yeah, just like the right-wing and fascism venn diagram has an area in common. Communism is a left-wing ideology, so it's no surprise.

The problem is that Right-Wingers seem to believe that Communism is the only Left-wing ideology.

Communism is an Extreme Authoritarian Left-Wing Ideology, whereas its more liberal counterpart is Extreme Social Anarchy with Democratic Socialism sitting in between them.

Of course in the real world, no extreme produces a pefect result, and that is where Social Democracy comes in, sitting to the left, but not at any of the extremes, preferring a blended model of Government Control for strategic assets and private control with regulations for non-strategic ones, all with a society of liberal laws and social safety net.

Sadly most of the right can't distinguish the difference between these.
