The polygraph has morphed.

Do they mean the new method sucks? Isn't that what "as good as a polygraph" means?

I wonder how the effort to train to defeat it compares to that for a polygraph?

You get nerd points if you knew that William Moulton Marsten, creator of Wonder Woman, invented the polygraph.

I did, of course, which is why I mention it.

ETA: Linky to Marsten wiki. "Some have linked this [polygraph] device to Wonder Woman's Lasso of Truth, but a direct connection is difficult to demonstrate."

Researched at the University of Utah and licensed to a private company. "As good as a polygraph...". I'll bet the polygraph people are livid. :D

The Canadian Mint makes the same claim about their coins. "Think someone is lying? Flip a coin, it's as good as a polygraph!"

They need to get screening contracts with the DoD for security clearances.

That way, it'll keep going indefinitely regardless of whether or not it actually works.

Given that polygraphs are so unreliable they're inadmissible in a court of law, then "as good as a polygraph" means little better than "expensive paperweight".
