The DeSantis gambit

Or to be more accurate, de Santis vows to turn the US into a third world country if elected.

A fascist tyrant does not need a bunch of agencies. Far easier just to pronounce and tell the peasants to go **** themselves. As we speak the savvy Republicans are debating among themselves, why stick with Lear when we can have Coriolanus?

I encourage everyone to go watch CGP Grey's "The Rules For Rulers" video, especially the part about "Keys to Power."

Everything Trump did and DeSantis is trying to do will make a lot more sense.

From: Yahoo news
DeSantis vetoed a Republican-sponsored bill approved by wide bipartisan margins to modernize how the state purchases vehicles and create incentives for the the purchase of electric cars. Senate Bill 284 would have saved Florida up to $277 million over 15 years if the state’s entire fleet switched to electric...

This is yet another example of meatball Ron deciding to put some sort of ideology over actual beneficial results. Want to save taxpayers millions of dollars? Nah... I'd much rather flush the money down the toilet because I want to look more "right wing".

And its not like other Florida republicans were opposed to the bill. (It passed through the florida legislature with near unanimous approval.) And its not like this is some sort of long-standing opposition, since only about a year ago he gave support to improving infrastructure for electric vehicles.

Ha, I was just thinking of that video in regards to the Russian situation.

That's one reason for the obsession with discrediting or controlling other power structures but especially those that are supposed to give primacy to facts. Education, journalism, and the judicial branch are targets because of this.

Racist Ronnie promises to end birthright citizenship.
That would take a constitutional amendment. Or, you know, a Supreme Court majority determined to take the country back to the stone age.
Interestingly, two of his Republican rivals for President, Hayley and Ramaswamy, are themselves "anchor babies".
Ted Cruz would be looking aghast, surely...

Changing birthright citizenship would, I think, entail an enormous and cumbersome added bureaucracy and expense, which of course De Santis would deny funding, resulting in the virtual disenfranchisement of just about anyone born without the ability to prove the legality of their parents in some legally required form. As well, of course, as creating the ability to declare children to have no nationality at all, and expel them from their native country to places they may or may not have any connection to. Even if you don't much like the phenomenon of anchor babies, the price of preventing it is unmanageably clumsy, arbitrary and cruel.

The more DeSantis speaks, the more he reveals what a total POS he is. Trump is a narcissistic, pathological liar with almost no redeeming qualities, but I can't find a single positive attribute in DeSantis.

Not at all; Ted's no anchor baby! He was born in Canada!
And Mitt Romney's dad was born in Mexico.

ETA: I'm very much looking forward to the convoluted language he comes up with to deny citizenship only to people not of white northern European descent. And how he'll squirm to define Italy as "northern European".

Both Cruz and Romney had parents who were American citizens so they weren't anchor babies. Cruz's mother was a US citizen and Romney's father was born to two US citizens, making him a citizen. Romney's mother was also a US citizen.

So, right up Pudding Fingers' alley, then. ;)

And how many generations back does this "birthright" thing stretch? If your grandfather was a resident immigrant, that would make your father NOT a citizen, and thus you would not be a citizen. So what about your great-great-grandfather and mother, who were forcibly immigrated from Africa? They weren't "birthright" citizens at all. So a whole tree of Americans might be considered "non-citizens". Even back to the Founding Fathers, who were, after all, British citizens.

It's a silly idea. Perfect for Pudding Fingers.

DiSantis Da Mook doesn't care one bleeding damn about birthright or birthwrong or afterbirth. He backs these and other ugly ideas -- no, he mimes backing them -- to fire up the base he hopes to build. If you can make the lowest denominatorvolk feel good about themselves, and encourage them to despise law and decency and honesty, they'll march on Rome for you. He's seen it almost work, and he feels plenty confident about succeeding when he tries it for himself.
