Merged Tesla (i.e. Musk) being naughty?

The more I ponder it the more I think you are right. VW moving from diesel really gave the EV even more momentum. And BMW has moved away from hydrogen as of late. Maybe Honda is still toying with hydrogen, but I think most manufacturers are seeing the EV as the future.

And VW and BMW know how to get a prototype into mass production...and you have to wonder if this is where Tesla is having problems...going from a small company into a major one.

The reaction to his smoking pot is what's deranged. Recreational marijuana is legal on the west coast. Would shareholders and executives have reacted the same way to him consuming three martinis?

It this was a one off, it would not be a big deal, but it's the latest of a series of increasingly bizarre stunts by Musk. Let's consider it the same as a CEO getting drunk in public. Not a good look to all but the hipster crowd. And the hipster crowd is not where the big money is.

He smoked like half a joint. It's not in any way comparable to getting drunk in public.

He and Rogan had several glasses of whiskey during the show, why didn't the share price drop due to that?

Musk seems to be like his hero ,Nikolas Tesla; a genius one minute, who makes a total idiot of himself the next.
And people are going to start questioning his ablity to run a company on a day to day bsis if he keeps this silly crap up.
Not that that will hurt him with his personality cult, though.

Being a genius and a total idiot are not mutually exclusive. You can be very good at certain things and very bad at others.

I'm not disagreeing with the idea that Musk is becoming more trouble than he's worth to his own endeavors. But at the end of the day, making a big deal of him smoking some pot in California is just silly. It's not the 1950s.

Now, if someone was to react badly to Musk spending time with Joe Rogan, that I would agree with. Rogan is a nutter.

One has been in the car business for a century with the support of one of the largest manufactures in the world for the last few decades.

The other still insists it is not a car company but a tech company.

Which of those is best suited to produce 300,000 vehicles per year?

That's true. (Although only for one of Škoda factories. The other is stolen property...)

Mercedes is also coming out with their first electric cars.

BTW, is there something wrong with hydrogen as car fuel?

wiki: The drawbacks of hydrogen use are high carbon emissions intensity when produced from natural gas, capital cost burden, low energy content per unit volume, production and compression of hydrogen, and the large investment in infrastructure that would be required to fuel vehicles.

You would be hard pressed to name a more over rated, over taken seriously individual in history than Musk

Also, hydrogen production requires a lot of electricity. Why not bypass that part and put the electricity right into the car?

Dude... the obvious rejoinder is well, obvious. ;)
That said however... Musk is creative and adventurous in business (not always a good thing) but if he wasn't always just a tad nuts... then he's lost his freakin' mind now. :(
It's a bit sad too. If he doesn't or can't recover his rep, and fast, he's going to crash hard.

I think he's close to self-destruct mode, and doesn't much care any more.
