Ted's PalTalk Debate Challenge

Well, I'll throw in my two cents here and say that I've been to TLN's debate room on Paltalk and was amazed at how civil the tone is.

I've even commented to TLN that while he can occasionally come off as a bit confrontational and @ssholish on this forum, I've not sensed that attitude from him in the Paltalk room.

Clancie, Ian.......you should at least give it a try. Paltalk allows multiple user names, so you could come in under another name and just lurk. That would give you a good idea of how the room is run.

From my brief acquaintance with TLN on paltalk I agree he seems to be fine on there. Certainly nowhere near as bad as he is on here. But there again people say that about me too.

But none of this is relevant. I don't mind going on paltalk. I don't mind talking about metaphysics and putative anomalous phenomena. But making a special arrangement for it, coupled with the comments TLN has made, makes it very clear that this isn't going to be a friendly cosy discussion.

TLN has an ego problem. He has been comprehensively outargued on here, so he wants to have an argument on paltalk instead because he feels I won't be able to defend my arguments so easily when I do not have time to think before responding. I think this would only be the case if he or someone else were to say something intelligent. Can't imagine it happening somehow. It's never happened on here, so why should it happen on paltalk?

TLN's Paranormal Debate room is not in any wise a "let's talk about what TLN wants to talk about" room. When convo gets slow, TLN comes on and practically begs visitors to bring up a paranormal topic - any paranormal topic. And TLN is by far not the only person there. I think discussing your case studies is a perfect idea, and would fit well with the room. In any case, skeptics are typically outnumbered there on the order of 3 to 1 in some cases, sometimes even more; so you shouldn't feel uncomfortable there.

No, there was about 25 people in last time I was in there. Amateur Scientist said I was the only "woo". And the conversation is mind-numbingly boring. No paranormal topics were discussed at all.

(snip)
I've talked to you a few times on Paltalk, Ian. I like you much better "in person" when compared to what you write in the forum. Heck, I even ejoyed your singing (well, after I've had a few drinks myself, lol).

Maybe that's the point. You and TLN are both nicer in Paltalk than on the forum. Maybe the debate would be more interesting and civil. Who knows?

I will go on paltalk again. But I don't know about especially arranging a time. I'm reminded of when I used to go on the CB radio and people used to keep wanting to arrange to meet me to have a fight with me.

Does this help?
Lol. Definitely better.

Yes, I'll think about it, too, as I've never tried it. But, like you, Ian, it'd be a spur of the moment thing for me, not something I want to plan for or "schedule" ahead of time.

Did you go to your fights in a drunken state so that you wouldn't remember that you lost?

Well I wouldn't mind going on when you go on. Perhaps you could pm me or something? :)

Its rich being told you have an ego problem by someone as self obsessed as yourself Ian. Also, who the hell thinks you're "interesting"?

I have no ego problem, Ian. I have a progress problem. No progress is made here so I think a different venue is in order.

It all comes down to your absurd assertion that you're never been "refuted". You have been many, many times, but somehow you can't see it. Well, maybe you'll be able to hear it this time.

I just can't stand to watch the current pattern over and over again:

Ian: Assert nonsense.

Poster X: Thoughtful, polite post debunking Ian's philosophical nonsense.

Ian: Insults Poster X then runs.

Then later you'll turn up in another post to start the whole cycle over again as if the original post never happened. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Ian, clearly you can't read. Hence PalTalk. Further, you agreed to a debate several times. What's the problem all of a sudden? Surely such a mighty intellect such as yours has nothing to fear.

Well sorry you had to wear the "woo" title, nothing much I can control about that.

Paranormal topics arent discussed often because the room is highly social. We do more playing music, listening to Renata talk about how great the Lakers are, murderizing Johnno at chess, and joking around in the room than really talking about anything skeptical and paranormal-y.

The topics really wonders around, but it can go into paranormal chat if you would like, all it takes is a request.

And with the worlds greatest psychic admin at the wheel, I keep things civil in the room and boot folks out of the room all the time for uncivility.

(And you should go ahead and cruise some of the psychic rooms, you might get a reading by Characters1984).

TLN, you're being a bit like Claus with your whining. When people don't debate the way you want them to (ie like with Claus asking "believers" to email him articles for skepticalreport), you practically declare yourself the victor.

In a way, forums like this is a perfect platform for them to advocate their beliefs, without ever having to really examine the beliefs themselves.

Is that like Bill's statistical claim, or your claim about Clancie being "obsessive"?

Excuse my ignorance - :D - but what is paltalk, and where can I gain access to it, to see what you're all discussing?
