TAMbassadors Call

I think a bright, distinctive button would be visible enough for those seeking them.

Yeah, but you'd be trying to connect with those who might not even know to seek them. A guy with "TAMbassador" written across the back of his T-shirt is a bit harder to miss, even if you're not actively looking for them.

If the MC makes mention of it occasionally and holds up the button, people would know what they're looking for. I honestly would prefer a 3" yellow or orange button.

Yes, but that only works for Friday morning onward. There will be people wandering around Wednesday and Thursday who might find a TAMbassador useful, but who might not see the buttons.

Anyone who is not in the Del-Mar is technically "wandering around". :)

Note to everyone: if you overhear Scrut telling any woman "Follow me to the forum table," the protocol we're observing is to run up waving a cell phone and tell her you've just received an urgent call from her nanny -- one of the triplets is sick.

I can't believe you would C block me like that. :cry1

At QEDCon, the volunteers wore very visible orange T-shirts when they were 'on duty', doing a role very similar to the proposed TAMbassador idea (we had allocated slots, mainly between sessions when people would be moving about, but you could also choose to be available at other times), as well as some specific tasks (helping on the registration desk, etc.). It was always easy to spot one; a button would not work nearly as well. If there are enough volunteers it wouldn't entail wearing the T shirt for too long (although QEDCon was only 2 days, not 4.) If one chose an over-size T-shirt, you could just slip it on over what you were wearing while you were 'active'.

I'd be happy to be a TAMbassador too, though I'll be volunteering for the regular helping out, if that's needed this year. (Though perhaps the two roles overlap enough that they should be the same thing?)

If we had enough, I'd be ok with a shirt for one day of being "on duty" and a pin for other days. Of course, I'm thinking of this as a casual thing that wouldn't have stations or anything. We go about our business and enjoy ourselves at the TAM, but it is clear that we are willing to answer questions as well. If we have enough people to have a couple TAMbassasdors who have shirts, great! But if we only have 5-10 people and have one person in the shirt per day, that would put a LOT of pressure on that one person. I don't want to wear a single shirt for more than one day.

That gives me an idea! Why don't we produce some signs that we can tape to the backs of our shirts! But, instead of "Kick Me" they would say "TAMbassador"!

Or, perhaps a large, bright, distinct pin would suffice. Those could go on the backs of shirts, too.

Allow me a suggestion:

T-shirt for those willing to wear it (but not for 4 days straight, please. Not even 2 days in a row, if you ask me. I know I wouldn't). And button to those who prefer it! The T-Shirt is more visible, yes, but what if that person is busy, walking purposefully, talking animatedly with somebody else... once the concept is familiar, the newbie could simply spot that same design again on a button, and act from there.

Btw, I'm a TAMbassador volunteer. Lots of people know me, and etc., plus as a Brazilian it's my duty to the world to be very, very nice. :fg: :)

Apart from being a mere second TAMmer, I stand out enough in a crowd on my own, I think.

What would everyone think about one shirt and one large-ish button per TAMbassador, with a designated day to wear the shirt so not everyone is wearing it on the same day? Other than that, you can wear your pin as you see fit. Maybe have both in an easy-to-spot color like orange or bright green? I'm willing to organize, but I'm not much for designing things like this.

I think we need a table. :D I've added those who have posted.

If I were going I'd be up for this, but recent truck repairs killed any hope of attending this year. If this works out, I'll probably be a part of it next year!
