After the discussion on a thread or two about having TAMbassadors to answer questions, who would be willing to wear a bright button and answer questions to those who ask?

I would.

As a first TAMmer:

(1) These puns make me groan. Please keep it up!
(2) I think this is a terrific idea for people like me. I'll have lots of questions, to be sure.

Thanks!

Do you mean here at the forum or at TAM?

Because at TAM the forum table is a good source of info, that is one of our functions.

At TAM. The forum table is fantastic, don't get me wrong. The conversation was about having people milling around the function, in the bar, etc. The more in-depth questions would be directed to the lovely experts at the Forum table, of course.

I'm in!

Can we consider special t-shirts instead of pins? I think newbies would benefit from making us very easy to find.

I suppose...but not all of us want to commit to the idea of wearing the same tee-shirt for four or five straight days. Pins don't need to be laundered.

T-Shirts would be more visible - and a big-enough-pin (in the sense of "visible and recognizable across the room") might be uncomfortanble to wear.

Having several T-shirts per person seems expensive - but maybe they could be washed, celebrity signed and auctioned off afterwards?

And, for what it's worth: I'll be happy to sponsor one up front. I'll also sponsor a button, if it comes to that.

Perhaps we make a schedule of who is "on call" each day and that is the day you wear your t-shirt. Then you could wear a button on other days if you are willing to help or take it off if you need a break.

How about seeing how many volunteers there are, to see how the scheme can be worked out?

How many peopel do come to TAM? (Everybody but me, it seems ... *sigh*)

How many volunteers are needed for other tihngs, and for how long? (The TAMbassadors would be fairly pointless, I guess, on the afternoon of the final day, e.g. At least you wouldn't need hordes of them near the reception table anymore.

It was well over a thousand last year.

I'd say the most important times to cover would be noon-ish Wednesday until Friday evening.

By Friday afternoon, most everyone will be there, and be registered, but on Wednesday and Thursday you might have First TAMmers wandering around not knowing who the other TAMsters are. That's when you'd want to meet them, and let them know about all the events that take place, and all the usual hang-outs.

By Friday Evening, I suspect you'd have met everyone who was interested in being met, if the TAMbassadors were visible enough.

If I were able to attend this year, I'd go with a T-shirt.

I'll volunteer to direct drunk women to my room.

Note to everyone: if you overhear Scrut telling any woman "Follow me to the forum table," the protocol we're observing is to run up waving a cell phone and tell her you've just received an urgent call from her nanny -- one of the triplets is sick.

So as of right now we've got myself, Bumlet5 and Allecher -- and Horatius if he attends.

That could be a way to do it.

Last year it was about 1600.

Not necessarily. There are things going on Sunday and and social stuff going on throughout.

The button can be attached to your uncomfortable lanyard.

I think a bright, distinctive button would be visible enough for those seeking them. And, yes, they can be attached to badge lanyards.

I already have a collection of T-shirts I wanted to wear at TAM.

I suppose I could be one of these ambassadors, since I end up being one, anyway.

I'm far from knowing all the cool people (since I've only been to two TAMs), but I'll try to help out, if needed. I was planning on being a regular volunteer anyway but still don't know if they are needed (and in any case, that likely won't take up too much time).
