• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Tam 7?

1) I've never been to TAM.
2) I've never been further west than Chicago (unless you count the Dallas/Fort Worth airport).
3) I've only ever met 2 JREFers face-to-face (wunky and roger (and koa!).
4) I have a life-threatening illness that makes fixing 1-3 urgent and imperative.

Therefore, I am resolved to go to the next TAM.

That being said....can folks help me do it? It's a given that I can't afford this. How do I register for the scholarship? Is there an essay or something? Is it competitive? Once I get there, is there a hotel room floor I could sleep on? If my family comes, can we split up among hotel room floors?

Hi NobbyNobbs,
As TAM7 approaches, Paul A. will be running the scholarship fund again (most likely). It isn't competitive, but based on need and what you can afford. Paul has all the details. There will also be roommate threads on the forum, but I don't know if that would guarantee finding enough floor space for all your family.

I'm quite good at squeezing entire families into hotel rooms, so if it came to that, I'll get a room of my own (instead of sleeping with US), and you can all stay with me.

What JGLR is about...

I'm super confused. What exactly is this horse/chocolate/nekkid thing?

The new venue has an equestrian center, and as a former horse-owner, I became inspired and proposed the JREF Lady Godiva Ride as a possible event for TAM 7. (Hey, I'd just come back from TAM 6, I was still under the influence!) Anyway, once someone pointed out that it was possible to change the name slightly and get "JGLR" as the acronym, I had to change that. It's now the "JREF Godiva Ladies Ride."

In legend, Lady Godiva rode through her husband's estate naked to convince him to rescind (or not impose, in some versions) a tax on the people. In order to thank her for her kindness and spare her shame, the peasants all refrained from looking...except for one fellow, named Thomas. It is from him we get the term "Peeping Tom"...anyway, the idea was for the delicate flowers of skepticism to ride in (varying degrees of) undress. Arthwollipot offered to lead horses; and the since there are some wonderful chocolates made by Godiva (named after the same legend) it seemed appropriate for participants to be given them to fortify them before, and refresh them after, their ride.

Then it somehow got very silly, and now it turns out that facility is for professional exhibitions, not just guests riding.

So I'm trying to figure out something else fun and completely off-the-wall to celebrate going to TAM with.

Being that this is Vegas, I'm sure there's at least one pool at the resort--maybe we could do an inflatable Orca ride?? That's just not as classic, somehow... :(

I'm open to suggestions. MK

Get some broomstick horses....and a hotel hallway....

(After all, it's not really the horses we'll be looking at anyway, is it?)

Didn't you read the story? You aren't supposed to look at the near nekkid women.

<snip>anyway, the idea was for the delicate flowers of skepticism to ride in (varying degrees of) undress.
If "varying degrees of" can include "not-in-the-least" (okay, I might show an ankle or knee, and an elbow and wrist or two), and if I manage to swing attendance, then I'm in it for the chocolate, whatever "it" turns out to be...

I'd be curious to know how many Americans would come to a UK / Europe based TAM.
Cost would be a major issue- the same one non Americans face getting to Vegas.

I would. Vegas does nothing for me in the first place. Vegas in the summer is chock full of 100% suck. Winter Vegas was much better.

If our TAM7 JREF forum house party is a go, then there is no end as to what we can wear or do for at least a night. At TAM3, certain skeptical gals had chocolate body paint. The forum party must always involve chocolate of some kind. Horses poop. Chocolate smells and tastes good. Okay...Go
