Oh man, Sylvia Browne seems to have accomplished one miracle after all. And that is making me like something that TMZ did, for once.

I've read that before, and it is very amusing.

The big difference (had I had the chance to ask my questions) is, like the woman whose mother just died, Sylvia would have no reason to think I was trying to "trick" her. (OK, the woman wasn't trying to trick Sylvia, but it ended up that way.) My questions sound reasonable on the surface...

I won't pretend to guess about Sylvia in particular, but I was under the impression that you can delude/train yourself into being a good cold reader while still believing that's just how your "power" works.

Didn't we have someone here that described how he used to do tarot and only later learned that part of the technique he had developed was cold reading?

I'm not a 'he', but you might be referring to me - though there have been a few other ex-readers here over the years. But yes, I was completely sincere in my beliefs, and only through coming here did I learn about cold reading, hot reading and body language interpretation - that, with a good dose of very good instinct can make an effective mix to allow you to think it's all real. However .... once you start doing it really really regularly, and have any need to defend yourself and what you 'see', then it is not too long before you can start to see the cracks ... if you are being honest in your examination of your abilities, of course.
