Super Buffets?

Hey all,

The Lotus and the Peppermill sound great...but they sort of sound like regular restaurants. This being my first trip to Las Vegas, I'd like to experience one of those huge Las Vegas buffets. Any recommendations?
 
A lot of people love the Bellagio. I haven't been as I dont' like lines. I'm wondering if the new Wynn has a good buffet? The one at the Stardust wasn't good at all.... I think we could walk to the Wynn. It wasn't open last year.

Everyone raves about the Bellagio, still it's Prime Rib and crab legs that everyone eats!

I'm looking for suggestions too. I ate at the one at Ballys and it wasn't bad and a very reasonable price. People were great, no crowds.
 
I've heard the French restaurant at Paris is pretty good. I'd like to try that too.
 
All Casinos have buffets, and the Stardust is about average, but nothing special. Good breakfast, as I recall.

If you really want the best (and don't mind spending $30-$35 for a buffet and probably long lines to get in), I looked at several sites and these seem to be the ones that are near the top.

The Bellagio
The Aladdin
Rio (off the Strip)
Paris

The Mirage was also mentioned several times.

Some other posters can probably fill you in with more detail, but if you have to pick one for the experience, I've heard the most good about the Belliago-expensive but well worht it.

Just google Top Ten Las Vegas Buffets and make your pick.
 
I ate at the surf buffet (for breakfast) and survived.

The stardust also was pretty good for breakfast. Didn't have any other meals there.

I can personally vouch for the Rio (though I haven't tried the seafood buffet) and the Bellagio, though there is a wait (and I haven't tried their Fri-Sat special buffet- and I'd like to)

I've heard good things about the Luxor and expect the Wynn to be pretty good.

I wasn't that impressed with the Bellagio's buffet. But I also went for seconds and thirds so what do I know. It just didn't feel worth the price.

Here's a list of buffets from the people at cheapovegas.com. I check with these guys every time I plan a trip to Vegas.

Another general rule of thumb in Vegas is that any casino with the word Station in its name has a decent to good buffet. Main Street Station (downtown) is one I have experienced and recommend.

Well, I haven't been to Vegas before either, but I have no desire to do hotel buffets. Been to plenty of hotels and lots of buffets of all sorts and they never have any appeal.

The Lotus of Siam is definitely it for me. I LOVE Thai food, I could eat it all the time.
 
The Orleans has good buffet and it's inexpensive compared to the big strip casinos. Some to avoid at all costs are the Boardwalk, [FONT=Verdana, Helvetica, Arial]Excalibur and Circus Circus.

Go for brunch. They have the best, most comprehensive, spectacular incredible brunch I've ever eaten.

GO TO PARIS!

Pardon me whilst I go cry in the corner over not being able to go to TAM. Why do I even visit this forum???
 
I am bullish on the Bellagio buffet - particularly the weekend dinner one. I've also eaten the Rio and the Aladdin (buffets), and in my mind, Bellagio wins. Reasons:

- Best seafood. Most buffets have crab legs and prawns in Vegas. Bellagio goes over the top with (selection varies) smoked salmon, sushi, sturgeon, sea bass, a seafood gumbo with scallops and mussels etc...

- Best roasts. On the weekend buffets they have exotic roasts I've seen - genuine Kobe beef, venison, game hens, quail, bison, a superb beef wellington in addition to the staples of turkey, ham, roast beast etc...

- Some of the best desserts. I'd say Rio is better for those with a sweet tooth. But the Bellagio desserts do kick ass. Also a nice sugar-free section for those who prefer.

If you starve all day and brace yourself, it is EASY to get your moneys worth. If a decadent dinner buffet is part of your Vegas experience - then I'd say Bellagio wins. Just have a wheelbarrow ready to trundle you back to your room or the Roman vomitorium at Ceasars Palace.

BTW - I've heard that the Wynn buffet is fairly mediocre, given the opulence of the property. Haven't tried it personally tho.
 
I'll put in a good word for the Bellagio buffet as well. I always drag friends there when I'm in Vegas, and everyone has thanked me for it so far. It's not the cliched Vegas buffet with food that tastes like a high school cafeteria; it's more like going to a good quality restaurant and being able to sample all of the best dishes -- "sure I'll have some Kobe beef, and a little of the venison, and a couple snow crab legs." The line does suck, but if you avoid the peak rush time it's not so bad.

I've heard that other hotels have emulated the "high-end buffet" approach of the Bellagio, so some of the other suggestions here may be good, too, I really couldn't say.

Oh, other than the Stardust breakfast. I went there last year for brunch and it was pretty bleh -- the usual greasy eggs and bacon and cardboard waffles.

Doesn't Excalibur have the "dinner and a show" thing with a joust going on while you watch? Of course, that's not exactly a buffet I suppose. Last I heard, that was about $50 though.

And I'm all for an "all you can eat". Provided there's ample time to finish what's on my plate, and I haven't had a big lunch or breakfast earlier. Not taking the time to enjoy the taste of your food is punished with whiplashing where I'm from ...
 
The boardwalk closed?

I'm not saddened or surprised or anything. I hope they replace it with something that has a real roller coaster.

Indeed they do. The Tournament of Kings is $55. I haven't been to it since it opened back in 1990. Now, that style dinner and show is available in several US States.
 
I just heard on TV that the Peppermill is one of the top 10 pick up bars in the US.

Yikes!

I was going to take the teenagers there! I think I still will, I need the best food that is an easy walk from the Stardust since I'm not getting a car.
 
I've eaten at the Bellagio and the MGM and liked both buffets. The MGM is a little cheaper than the Bellagio, and I thought it was still very good.
 
Yeah, MGM is my favorite too. It's hard to beat all-you-can-eat crab legs.
