Peres isn't current. I can see where a port in Gaza would be a good way to empower the Palestinians, but is there support in the Knesset for such a thing?
Shimon Peres is currently being considered for the position of President of Israel.

There is no support for anything at all regarding the easing of security restrictions against palestinians (in general) and withdrawing the IDF from full combat status in Gaza (specifically). In case you forgot, the Israeli Army is still missing a man in Gaza -- Corporal Gilad Shalit. All attention is focused on his safe return (as well as the freedom of IDF soldiers Goldwasser and Regev, who are being held hostage in Lebanon, in violation of the cease-fire resolution of the UN).

However, the current crisis notwithstanding, yes, there is a consensus for giving the Palestinians permission for both the deepwater port and the international air terminal; and even talk of going ahead with a high-speed rail link to the gateway cities of the West Bank: Hebron/AlQuds.

The Israelis are signatories to agreements which specifically mention the port project (which was started in 1999-2000)
