Received the following in an email with the subject "Chris Dufresne" (for those who do not know: Chris Dufresne is one of Sylvia Browne's sons. He has written a couple of books with her, and does "phone readings" for a few hundred dollars less than his mother.):

I had a reading about 4 years ago. He was spot on with everything he told me. I let him do all the talking and he said things that I would only know. He told me I was going to move and described
The fire place of the house. A few years later we did move to the house he described. I did ask him about my older sister. She was having marital problems that I did not tell him about. He said she would leave her husband in the next couple of years but not until she could afford a place to live on her own. You have to understand my sister the only reason she was staying with her husband was because of his money. She did leave him after she got a job and could afford her on place. As far as my health the first thing he said was you have lower back problems that you will have to deal with the rest of your life. He didn't know I had just had lower back surgery 2 weeks before and to this day I still have issues with it. There are other things he was right about
But this is getting long. Not everyone is unsatisfied with their readings.

One of the first articles I intend to put on the site (once I am able) is an article about Chris Dufresne, based primarily on emails about him I have received, mostly from dissatisfied customers of his. Nice to have an email or two from satisfied customers to include as well!

And some people are so easily satisfied. <sigh>

In a way I feel more sorry for these people. Having this happen just makes it that much harder for them to see what is going on.

Rest assured that I will not be silent on that point in the planned article.

Thank you for your efforts. People like this drive me nuts. Worse, people defend them by saying "they give people hope". Life based on lies is no kind of hope.

Assuming the letter is real, it hasn't occurred to this person that a little hot reading was going on. You have to give your name, phone number, and credit card number in advance, then wait a few weeks or months for someone to call back. Just had back surgery? That would leave a paper trail for the scam artists to find.

It's like you've read my article before I've even written it!

From the letter:

These days that's a pretty safe guess depending on the age of the scammed, errr ummmm, client. Once you develop lower back problems, it is pretty much a lifetime issue. Any so called psychic predicting money issues is also safe. You wouldn't be calling for a reading if your life was in fine order. I remain unimpressed by this reading. :p

They don't even bother. You'd think for such high prices they would at least put in that much effort but they don't, and I'm almost positive I would know if they did.

It's just all a mix of cold reading, dumb luck, and self-fulfilling prophecy.

She's told she's going to move to a house with a certain kind of fireplace, happens to see one while out house hunting a few years later, recalls the reading, moves in.

As far as her sister, a lot of women wait to leave their husbands until they can support themselves financially. But you have to wonder exactly what was said here. It's likely she gave away much more than she realizes.

And I don't know anyone who couldn't say yes to lower back problems, even if it's just a slight ache at the end of the day. She happened to have just had surgery so to her it seemed like an amazing hit.

Also, it's been four years since the reading. Remembering it as being accurate isn't the same as having been accurate at the time.
