I especially enjoyed how she seemed to equate the terms "blasphemic" and "skeptical."

Well, actually, how it started was I thought Robert would enjoy playing the hidden item game and we tried to get it going on his laptop. We have a lot of trouble with the wireless thingy from Sprint which we attach at the laptop's USB port. We got the game started, but it would take forever to load and everything moved really slowly. So I took it over using my pc. I'm retired and have very little fun money, so playing these games kills time.

I sent messages to everybody who became Robert's "neighbor," letting them know it was me playing, not Robert. Nothing tricky about it really - I know Robert's FB password. ;)
 
The words that jumped out at me from "Stunned's" email were "knowledge" and "truth."

These words carry great significance.

If we speak of "knowledge" as the collection of facts that are reliably known to humanity, I am unaware of any "knowledge" that has come from Sylvia Browne. Her unproven and unprovable assertions--about a heaven, about an afterlife, about another existence--are not "knowledge" by any reasonable definition. They do not become "knowledge" by the supposed authority of one person or by being believed by many or by emotional investment in such things being so.

"Truth" is a much more difficult concept, because the word has many meanings in many contexts. If we speak of "truth" as something being (to a high degree of certainty) consistent with reality and something that can be evaluated as correct by anyone making an effort to investigate it, then it seems to me that Sylvia Browne's approach has been not one that leads to truth. Her pronouncements have been (to some extent, by her own admission) inconsistent with reality, and are not verifiable no matter how much effort one is willing to make.

A lesson of my life is that paths to "knowledge" and "truth" come from curiosity, initiative, hard work, a willingness to learn, and the integrity to revise or abandon beliefs or models that are not in accordance with the facts. I am, therefore, distrustful of anyone who purports to offer a path to "knowledge" or "truth" that just ... comes to you, without any of the inquisitiveness or personal honesty, and especially without any of the hard work.

I do not think there is a single path to "knowledge" or to "truth"; but I do think that some paths are far more likely to get you to the goals than others, and paths that rely upon superstition or wishful thinking or blind faith or unprovable allegations are very bad bets indeed.

I have it on my 7 machine.. Linux Mint doesn't like it for some reason.
It fills a few minutes a day and as you write it's fun trying to find all the items :)

tbv, I just keep in mind that the correspondent is someone who could benefit from really reading and considering what is on my site. then I try to encourage them to do just that.

Getting upset with them would simply be counterproductive.

Actually, blasphemic refers to a higher oxidation state than blasphemous. Blasphemous chloride is BsCl2, and blasphemic chloride is BsCl3. Blasphemic chloride is made by bubbling elemental chlorine through a solution of blasphemous chloride dissolved in a mixture of thionyl chloride and the foul essences of the Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young.
