Is that ok??

No, why don't you go read about it somewhere. It's not our job to make you learn something. Everyone smart on this board, when they wanted to learn something, went and figured it out for themself. If we explain evolution to you, you're still not any smarter, because you'll just be memorizing facts, and that's what got you into trouble in the first place.

You need to learn how to figure things out for yourself. Nobody's going to hold your hand. It's part of growing up.

Speak for yourself, strathmeyer. It's my job to hold people's hands and help them figure things out. It's also the 'E' in the James Randi Educational Foundations.

That said -- "Evolution" is a broad area, and it's hard to know where to start. Ned, why don't you give us a hand here by posting what you think evolution is about, and we'll discuss it from there? I promise not to get sarcastic or to jump down your throat as long as the questions are germane and genuine....

What the heck does that mean? Are you using hallucinogens?
Sorry, I keep forgetting that you folks insist that there's a difference between Big Bang theory and the evolution of life. I pretty much view it all as one and same. You know, sort of like a tree, which begins as a seed and is planted in the soil? And, while it may go through a whole series of evolutionary changes and/or adaptations throughout its lifetime, there's no doubt from the very get-go, that it was always meant to be a tree.

Life is not the fluffy, pretty, anthropocentric, egotistic fairy tale you make it out to be.

Yet you seem to be overlooking something very basic here. Things do not sprout and take form bereft of an overall design.

No, Iacchus. Your garbage has been all over these boards; the only overlooking being done is the science you continue to ignore.

Does a tree maintain its roots in the soil?
This thread is a serious attempt at education, Iacchus. Don't ruin this one, too. You should lurk instead, and see how honest questioning and exploration happens.

No, they don't, but I have a much darker viewpoint of how "things" spout and survive. I think Sylvia Plath said it best:

This is an excerpt from her poem All the Dead Dears:

All the Dead Dears
by: Sylvia Plath

In the Archeological Museum in Cambridge is a stone
coffin of the fourth century A.D. containing the skeletons
of a woman, a mouse and a shrew. The ankle-bone of the
woman has been slightly gnawed.

Rigged poker -stiff on her back
With a granite grin
This antique museum-cased lady
Lies, companioned by the gimcrack
Relics of a mouse and a shrew
That battened for a day on her ankle-bone.

These three, unmasked now, bear
Dry witness
To the gross eating game
We'd wink at if we didn't hear
Stars grinding, crumb by crumb,
Our own grist down to its bony face.

emphasis mine

We are all worm food. ;)

Are you sure that you're not being anthropocentric here? What a jerk!

I put in my two cents worth. I'll try and refrain ... albeit it's clear to me that nobody's particularly interested in learning anything. ;)

No, he's not. Besides, you apparently don't even know the meaning of the word.

anthropocentric - adjective
1 : considering human beings as the most significant entity of the universe
2 : interpreting or regarding the world in terms of human values and experiences

Now who do we know here that likes to speak of consciousness as if it were the most important thing in the universe? Hmmmm?

Actually, I think he was taking the whole thing too personally and was making much ado about nothing. Why else would he try and insult me?

You seem to suggest that

1) I'm the only person to have ever "insulted" you, and
2) You have done nothing on these boards worthy of "insulting".

Of course not, but some folks seem more inclined to do it than others.

Garbage, eh? Would you consider it an insult if I said you were full of cr*p?
