Yeah, I knew that some tiles were intentionally removed before flight to test heating of exposed surfaces , but there were also tiles that came off during re-entry. However, those tiles were expected to come off. As I understand the way this testing was done, only the expect tiles fell off - they did not lose ANY tiles that they didn't expect to come off... that is a big step forward.
Maybe they'll fix it by incorporating fast tile replacement into their fast turnaround procedure. Sometimes the best way to solve a problem is to just roll with it.
Indeed. They may have to have large numbers of boosters and ships in order to meet their fast turnaround goal. I can see them taking a landed ship straight to a high bay or mega bay to immediate start tile replacement/repair.
Little things like replacing tiles is one of the reasons why fast turn around procedures stop being fast turn around procedures.
Yeah those Formula 1 tire replacements do drag on.
It may stop fast turn around procedures for individual Ships, but if you have enough Ships and enough launch platforms, its no problem.
Nobody puts stuff in orbit because it's cheap.
But make it cheap and they'll rush to put stuff in orbit.
