Me either. Well I know why - it's emotional, mainly because we are dealing with children. I don't know that it's a good enough reason but most people probably don't have an interest in changing it. Who wants to defend child molesters?

Maybe it would be useful if the OP could explain what he means by "forgiveness". I'm trying to imagine what societal forgiveness would look like and I'm coming up blank.
Well they are not forgiven by the law, as they must register and abide by conditions for the rest of their lives.
I actually really don't like that word, I think it's bullspit. Christians use it because without it they won't go to heaven.
By the way, if it is selfless to forgive does that mean it is selfish to forget?

How about this. A person goes to prison for molesting a child and after his release, he never commits the crime again and expresses repentance. The guy in my original post has been out for nearly 15 years and he has not even spoken to a child.
