Sexual education

It takes more than explaining to a kid the semantics of sex as if there are rules to it. Kids will respect the ethos of sex and intimacy only if they associate these standards with people they trust and aspire to be like. It takes good role modelling more than lecturing and rules.

To help kids make the right choices in this respect, frank and open discussions are always good, but they must extend past the classroom and into the community. It's no good having Mr.SexEd stand up and say 'don't screw or you might catch AIDS', when the ethics of intimacy are adopted from their peers and their mis-informed beliefs.

They are all necessary, but are all pieces in a bigger jigsaw puzzle.
