What are you trying to capture from? Anything produced on the screen using DirectX is unlikely to appear in snag it, which is really just a pretty front end for Printscreen as far as I remember.
Hyperionic's Hypersnap DX has the ability to capture those screens, which comes in handy if you want to make screencaps from videos or games.
I've had version 5 for a couple of years now and found it works quite well. They're up to version 6 now; there's a free trial version which you can buy a license for if you like it.
Look in your video control panel for an option labeled Overlay or Overlay Controls. Both ATI and nVidia have this and I'm assuming others do too. Turn this option off. Try snagit then.
Also, this same setting will prevent media players from playing video on a dual monitor.
